How many people here love horses and riding and want to own some?

I DO!

Who else does?

I am in the exact same boat. I did not get to ride horses until I was a senior in high school and had to pay for it. I got one year of riding in before I left for college where I do not have the money to ride anymore. I love riding and miss it so much. Someday I plan on own a Friesan. :D

Amy

Friesans are beautiful! Im going riding tomorrow and having a jumping lesson. I love horses and riding especially jumping, its so FUN! Im so glad you love horses to, I think Bea does as well.

Jumping is fun, but I also enjoy western riding. I was starting to get into reining and barrel racing but then I had to leave for college.

Amy
02-24-2006, 12:35 PM
Wow ive heard about barrel racing you are so lucky to have tried it!

blueberrybuns
02-24-2006, 12:43 PM
Well, I actually had not tried the barrel racing yet, but I was working myself up to a level where I could try it. I have tried reining though and done plenty of hunter/jumper.

Amy
02-24-2006, 12:54 PM
Well if you were at that level I'd take up riding again. Once there was a lady who hadn't ridden for a while and she took it up and then took part in the olympics and won a silver medal!

Amy

I'll be back tomorrow or later today, Bye!

I LOVE horses, i've been riding once a week for the past 7 years but my parents are too cheap to buy me my own horse. I've done loads of different stuff like dressage, x-country, show jumping, bareback, western, games. I've never had a chance to compete though one day i'd like too. I've fallen off a horse once before and that was whilst doing x-country, my horse decided life was just so exciting that he pigrooted after a fence and threw me into a tree! I'm in the highest class at horse riding (i'm pretty sure) which basically means we get the nutty horses when they first arrive, nutty horses are the funnest in my opinion.;)
Here's some photos of me horse riding, they're a couple of years old so i look kinda different but oh well.
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/Baby_Blinkie/TrottingalongonDeisel.jpg
Me on one of my favourite horses, Diesel. Sadly that lesson was the last time i saw him because he bolted twice with me and then tried to throw me over a fence, i'm asuming he was sold to a private owner after that. I felt bad cause i was one of the few students who were allowed to ride him in the jumping arena and that was the first time he'd played up like that for me.:(
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a12/bea_p/DeiselBolting4.jpg
See, i told you he bolted. Notice the dust.:p
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a12/bea_p/Cheeredupbyjigsaw.jpg
Same lesson but after i was nearly thrown, little Jigsaw was the only pony not being used so i got him.....and we were JUMPING!!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a12/bea_p/pictures12122004012.jpg
And one last photo of me riding a horse called Beavis, he's still around but i haven't ridden him in a while.

Amy
02-25-2006, 05:10 AM
Wow great pics Bea! Im going riding today so I might have some photos. You look very at home on the back of a horse!

Amy
02-25-2006, 05:35 AM
I love nutty ponies to! Riding them is quite an experience!

Amy
02-25-2006, 01:57 PM
Correction! I didn't get to jump today because the other riders weren't good enough. I just did lots of cantering. And we didn't take a camera! But I did get to ride my fave horse called Chloe.

Bea

Thanks, i do often feel most comfortable on a horse....even more when we do bareback but that's not very often cause nobody else seems to like it.
That's a shame that you didn't get to jump but at least you were able to canter heaps. :) What does Chloe look like? My favourite horse at the moment is a TBxAppaloosa called Idaho, he's really pale grey (like white) and he has little splotches of brown through his coat, he also has one blue eye and one brown.:p

Amy
02-26-2006, 07:23 AM
Aww Idaho sounds lovely! Chloe is a Dark Bay and she is around 15hh but I don't know what breed she is. You need strong leg aids and a whip to get her moving! In my group yesterday there was a person who when she cantered bounced nearly right off the horse! It was so funny to watch! I tried not to laugh!

I'm allergic to horses so I never went on one. It looks cool though.

Horse riding yesterday was so fun, our teacher was away so we went on a trail ride but i got a little skewbald pony called Squirt. It was so cute cause when we were cantering up hills he galloped and the tiniest nudge from me got this massive burst of speed!:p

Ha ha that reminds me of when I went on a Hack and the horse I was riding (Chocolate) started racing with another (Jasper) and they galloped for ages along a long straight track and Chocolate jumped a hedge about 4 1/2ft high! It was great fun though!

I'm a bit allergic to something around the stables (probably a mix of dust and horse hair) but i still go even if it means sometimes i have to put up with itchy eyes. :p

Bea

I've been riding 7 years too! Since i was 9.

blueberrybuns
03-04-2006, 02:10 AM
I started when I was 17. I had to pay for it myself. Unfortunately I had to stop when I was 18 because I moved away to college and could no longer afford. Sometimes when I am back in town, though, I will go to the stables and take a ride out on one of the horses.

I used to ride a horse named Idaho as well (show name was "I'd Imagine"). He was a very large bay Saddlebred horse. He would hold his head so high that you had to look around it to see where you were going. His nickname name was "Tater" for Idaho potato. :p

My favorite horse to ride was named Chico. He was a beautiful chesnut quarter horse. The only problem was when spring rolled around he got very frisky. I have been thrown off Chico twice. Unfortunately he was sold to one of the students so although I can still go see him I cannot ride him. :(

Amy
03-04-2006, 03:19 AM
Well at least you can go riding a little bit, and I love chesnuts the most I'd say. Its a shame you can't afford it, my mum and dad pay for my rides!:giggle:

Bea

I have a larger version of that somewhere i think, i used to have it as my desktop background.

OMG! Horse riding last Sunday was EVIL!! I got a great horse and all but we had to do soooooo much sitting trot. Instead of cantering to the back of the ride we had to do a super fast sitting trot and then we had to do stirrupless rising trot....OUCH! Then we had the 'pleasure' of doing bounce poles on the ground and of course the horses couldn't quite figuire those out and did all sorts of strange things....most stumbled at least once. :p

Amy
03-23-2006, 06:34 AM
Your poor bottom!

Oh, the sirrupless posting trot....I hated that one back when I used to ride. :hammer:

Amy
03-23-2006, 12:27 PM
I remember when I did that around 2 months ago. Oooh the pain! Well I actually enjoyed it!

Millie
03-23-2006, 12:51 PM
I like that picture Amy. I've never done any of that trotting -stirrups stuff.
The most scarest thing I've done is Canter on the side of a moutain!

Amy
03-23-2006, 01:04 PM
That sounds scary Millie! But stirripless rising/posting trot is painful! Thats just scary! Which is worse?

I'll probably be riding Chloe again. Yay!

Bea

Ooohhh! Have fun! :D TOmorrow is the last lesson of term for me and guess what, we're doing all bareback games! It'll be so fun, hopefully we'll get the ponies, they're so great for games!

Amy

I might do some more jumping today.

Amy
04-08-2006, 04:53 PM
I went horse riding!

I rode Chloe!

I didn't jump though.

I did loads of cantering!

There was a lady who cantered and put her legs really high up behind her and she screamed! I couldn't hide my laughter!

I LOVE HORSES AND PONIES!!!
(In other words I love all things Equine!)

Oooh I'm MAD about them!!! There isn't a smiley to describe how much I love them!!

Chloe is so hard to move! You have to kick REALLY hard to get her to do a small walk, imagine what it's like to try to get her to canter!

Anyway I think she's the best horse in the world! She does give the occasional nip, I don't mind though!

Bea
04-08-2006, 05:07 PM
Glad you enjoyed yourself! :D I know what you mean about not minding the nips. The first pony i ever rode at the riding school i go to was called Candy and she was a bit of a monster. She would kick and bite and probably most annoyingly she knew how to take her bridle off before a lesson. First time i went to fetch her from her stall her bridle was off and when i went to fix it she kicked me in the shin but somehow she was my very favourite horse for a couple of years. Sadly she broke her leg and had to be put to sleep quite a long time ago.

wow Bea! from all of your budgie knowledge and experience I assumed you were much older! I was actually picturing a middle aged woman when I messaged with you! funny how the internet does that eh lol
oh. and I like horses too haha! But i'm much too poor to enjoy the hobby :(

Bea
04-09-2006, 07:31 AM
Everyone imagines me as older! :p

Horse riding was so funny today, of all the horses i could've got i rode Portia who is like my worst horse enemy! I swear she hates me (though she's just generally a cow to anyone). We were doing games and no matter what i tried she wouldn't canter, silly girl. But it was the end of the day and she had been used a lot so i guess she had reason to be cranky.

Amy
04-09-2006, 08:15 AM
Yesterday Chloe had done hadly any work and just had a 2 hour lunch break but it was still really hard to get her to canter or even trot! Anyway it was very good. (Even though I didn't jump!)

Mistyoriline
04-22-2006, 12:42 AM
I love them but never rode my fear of heights kicks in..lol...nice pictures

Bea
04-22-2006, 01:10 AM
Horses aren't that high, i'm terrified of heights but somehow i love the feel of riding even the biggest horses at riding. :D

Amy
04-22-2006, 05:22 AM
Well I don't mind what hight I'm at! I once rode a 17hh horse and I thought I'd be really scared but I wasn't!

Maybe you could give it a go?...

I love horses! I grew up on a stud breeding them. I have 2 thoroughbreds right now. One is a 2 yr old bay filly, she is in training now. The other is a 3 yr old bay filly, she's in the breeding barn now.
The worst injury that is my favorite one is a bite i received on my arm from Blues The Standard. He is an 8yr old gelding that came in 2nd in the breeders cup spint in '04. He started as a cheep claiming horse and ended up earning over $1 million bucks. Anyways, i still have the scar, lol

sorry if im not supposed to reply to this thread cos its so old

but

omg

i love horses

lol

i havnt ridden in so long as now most weekends are spent partying and hanging out with friends but im going riding this weekend.

My fave horses:

Beauty- black 12.2 hh pony. She belongs to my friend but apparently shes half mine as Im the only one who rides her:p and i look after her when im there. Her name totally suits her, shes gorgeous! Sometimes a bit crazy, especially when being ridden barebak...likes to buck!= D Shes so fast for a pony her size n never seems ot get tired

Indy- the pony I learned to ride on- trot, canter, jump. Hes a total sweetie with beginners but is great if you wanna do something more.

SHEILA- :p LOVE this girl. A 14.2 hh chestnut Arabian. Shes so spirited and beautiful. Carries her head high and tosses her mane..WOW. Shes so responsive to the leg, a tiny nudge gets a burst of speed, easy to collect, jump, anything really. Shes also a fantastic games pony.Shes got this amazing fast bouncy canter and a great jump...lol i could go on all day

Monty- the fuuny one. A 15 hh Appaloosa gelding. Ask for a canter, he'll give you a fast trot. Ask for a trot, he'll canter. Ask for a walk, he'll say hes lame. But hes great once he gets going. Nice paces too

Dolly- one word-JUMPING. she absolutely loves it. A bit stubborn but very cute

Rossy- 15.3 hh ex racehorse. hes so fast and now an eventer. NAughty!! but i love his energy and enthousiasm

Belle- aw. shes about 3 yrs old now, an arabian pony. She sold now as a show pony but she was so cute..scared of puddles and jumps. LOl you would canter up to a log and she would skid to a halt and step over it. so cute:p

soo many more but i cant really be bothered writing

cheersnc

hehe... this is kinda old...

Amy
06-23-2006, 04:24 AM
No! This thread is designed to go on forever! Please post here!!!!

I never told you how me and Cherie got along!

Right...

We got down to the yard, fetched her from her field, groomed, tacked up, went into sand school and I mounted.
Walked around twice, trotted around twice cantered around twice, but on the last lap of cantering, she turned the last corner so tightly and quickly, I started to slide off! Both my feet were out of the stirrups and my arms where around her neck, I was pulling on the reins one then the other, because she was nearly galloping!
I managed to stop her after another lap of speed cantering, and slid to the ground.
Then I remebered that she loved jumping, so you can guess what I did.
I remounted and cantered at a jump in the middle of the school. She jumped it so gracefully! Her hocks where lifted so high! She neighed right in the middle and it was fantastic! The best pony ever!

I used to take horse back riding lessons and I was kicked once in the elbow. It drew blood and OUCH it hurt!:( But I had to get over it because my parents wouldn't let me quit. I finally did quit lol but it wasn't because of that. It was because my trainer didn't know what she was doing. A monkey could have taught me better.

im not to fussy about horses my self.... but my dad is obsessed with them... there actually one of the only animals he actually likes....since he owned a ranch in england with like 30-40 of em when he was growing up.. and when my grandparents died they left us the house and the horses and we could of moved there and had a whole big ranch with 30+ horses but its sooooo exspensive in england so we couldnt and also we were quite happy here in canada.

horses sorta scare me to....ive only been horse back riding like twice.. and i almost fell off when they were galloping :(

Hey, I LOVE horses! I've been riding for 8 years and I do lessons, shows, x-country, jumping, etc. I do ride Western, but I've jumped low before in a western saddle. My mom was going to sign me up for English, but I broke my arm and I got my cast off about 3 weeks ago, so I need to build back the strength. I am very expierenced with it and my fave horse that LOVEEE is named Dude. I have another fave horse named Hawk. I love horseback riding, I can walk, trot, canter, gallop, flying lead change, post, jump, barell race, calf-roping..etc, etc. I posted pics of me on another thread.:p

As for stirrupless riding..hate it! You can't post without something to push you up!! When I was about 7, one of my used-to-be fave horses stepped on my foot and like, killed my toe. And then, not a while after, I was wearing red jodphurs and a young pony named Carissa mistook them for an apple and bit my knee. Don't ask why I was wearing red jodphurs, but they're still in my closet ready to be passed down to some younger horse riders. I can't stand the color red, never mind jodphurs.

Amy

Awww cool! Another horsey person! What thread did you post them on?! I was riding today, and we did loads of cantering, the instructor told me to put my stirrups down really low and well, I lost both stirrups!

It was good, and my dad forgot the camera.

I used to love horses when I was younger and had always wanted one, but since I live in the city I would never be able to get one. When I grow up I would love to own a Fresian or an Arabian. I saw this ad for Pinto for sale and just love the blue eyes. Heres a link for all of you to see.

At my riding place there's pony that looks just like that :D Except male, and NEVER angry/annoyed, even when another horse tryed to squish him.
I love riding. I do it once a week. I don't have a definite favorite, but I like jack, a partial roan pony (maybe about 12 hands) with two spots :D No idea about breeds. It's fun there. Jack has a cute little pony trot that is really easy to sit.
I hate stirrupless posting/jumping position. I've only been riding for a few months. I can... Let's see. Go over poles, walk and trot. And cantered on accident. Yeah, not much. I know XD :D

I used to take western riding lessons! I LOVE LOVE LOVE riding so much but we moved and I had to cancel the lessons. Horses must be greatest creatures in the world, besides budgies ;) lol. Friesians are one of my favourite horses...But I think my ultimate favourite horse would have to be the gypsy vanner :)
This is "The Road Sweeper"...

Deffinetly a gypsey vanner. They are my favorite kind of horses.

I use to ride on my grandpa's farm. Sometimes he even brought the horse over with a little easy-setup stable! His name was regel and he was a black throughbred with white triagle on his head. His mane was always so long and beautiful. But then my grandpa retired and he had to sell all the horses, including my baby...:(

I rode a hormone-driven horse today... he was trying to get the mare in the arena. It was kinda fun. He trotted very fast. And he has a VERY bouncy trot so it was crazy :)

wow i am a horse loves. my family own 8 so i dont pay for lessons....i do them my self and i have beem riding since i was born..(not on my own though!) i got my own horse when i was 2 she was called gem and was a little greay welsh mountain pony. then i had brandy a old bay mare but ever so sweet and safe i would of trusted her more than anything with small children.and i have had others but cant remember them all. at the moment i own a black QH. his show name is docs poco moon and he is the horse that is on my pic.our family has owned over 40 horses of our own, and we breed QH's. The activites we do are cutting and western pleasure although we have tryed many more. oh i forgot to say , yes we are western riding people.if your wondering what cutting is, it is a sport on horse back, where you ride western on a QH, and need to bring a cow out of the heard that is in a bunch at the back of a wall\\railing somewhere (you do this in an arena) once you have chosen your cattle beast, you have to keep it from getting back into the heard with the others.you pretty much do nothing and rely on the horse but you need to train them to do that.you must have your hand down on the saddle with loose reins so the horse does its thing.you have a certain amont of time tat you do it in and you can only swap to a different cow if the beast has stopped still or is looking away. the less cows you use in your time the better.there is 1 or 2 j:D udges that will give you a score witch with 1 judge is ushually around 60 or 70 somthing with two its 100-100 and somthing.you stay down one end of the arena too. sorry this post was so long, and if you kept reading for this long thanx for reading! if you have any questions about cutting, feel free to pm me.

He did very well for his first race. He was 3rd along the back strech, got up to 1st around the turn, got overtaken by the closers at the end. 6f is pretty long for their first time out, i preffer 5f, and sometimes when they have horse overtake them, they kind of freak a bit! lol.
had it have been 5f instead of 6, i think he would have won it!

they were flying though, they went the first 4f in 44.29, very quick! I expect a great race from him next time out (preferably without dumping his rider after the race!!!)

(fannie ran 3rd in her first race back in the summer)
