I was showing my 6 year old boy our new budgies that we just got. we started out with two little things and quickly decided to get more. I got 4 more yesterday that gave us a total of six new family members.

When we were in the aviary my son wanted to go back inside the house so he opened the aviary door and ran out. this upset the budgies and they all flew around the aviary unfortunately he held the door open and asked me if i wanted to come out as well. By this time Tweedy did the blot out the door never to be seen again :(

our 10 year old girl who's budgie flew away is so upset now as she picked it out and named it as well :(

I'm som sorry to hear that, it must be so upseting.
Hopefully Tweedy comes back knowing he has friends in the aviary, and their singing attracts him back.

I guess I'm more mad at my self because i had planed to build a safety cage around the aviary tomorrow and i should know better to keep an eye on little kids.... really kicking my self over this and totally blame my self :(

Don't blame yourself, there was no way of foreseeing what was going to happen.

there is still hope. I just saw tweedy in the tree out back but couldn't get her, any tips on how to catch her ? i dont have a net but made this make shift one out of a coat hanger some netting. the last i saw her was flying off with 3 birds hot on her back dive bombing her :(

Oh no! That has got to be so frustrating; to see her and not be able to catch her. Do you have a recording or something of your other budgies? Playing that outside might entice her to come towards the familiar budgie chirping. If you don't have any recordings of your budgies, there are some that are available on the internet that you could play. It may sound silly but it may work.

Why dont you try to bring out some food and get her to go closer to you then cathch her using a net...nyway just a suggestion, not really sure if it's gonna work. I hope you can cathc her.

That must bring some hope of actually getting close to having her back. Hopefully she will notice the aviary and she will come close to it, staying close by. If she does notice them she might not leave that area.

I read that you were going to build an extra entrance door to the aviary, seperating the aviary door from the outside, well my brother came up with the plan of you building that and leaving that door open with food on the ground so she notices it, but having the aviary door closed so no more escape. Hopefully she will go into the entrance way and stay long enough for you to close her in and getting her back. Don't know if it will work tough.

If you have a cage, the larger the better, prop it up a bit, put food on the ground in a familiar container, have a string attached to the cage and hopefully if she goes down you can catch her that way. That was how we got Budgie after she started showing up at our bird feeder. The more familiar stuff you can have around the better.

I would be very concerned if you saw other birds chase her away and dive bomb her. I think that would reduce your chances considerably.

I really hope you get her back though.

I really do you hope you get Tweedy back. A few years ago I saw a group of grows attack a small bird. I was so devastated my friend and I ran them off but the bird died two hours later. I truely hope Tweedy doesnt go threw that.

That's great news. How did you manage to catch her?
One of my birds was caught outside, I don't know how they did it since this bird is not tame at all. When I was a child, a budgie landed in front of our family when we were out for a walk. That bird was also not tame.
Sometimes they find people when they are hungry and tired...

I am so happy for you,

Sigrid

How i did it was, I left the outside door open to the room that i built on the aviary with some bird seed in. She just flew in at that point and then all had to close the door before she flew out. Once inside the safety room i could then get in with her and nab her with the net. it is a good thing i built that safety room on the end of the aviary :) photos to come :) once i find my camera
