So - my two keets (about 7 weeks old) - names: PeeWee and Really, have been with me since Wednesday. I will soon have pics - if I can figure out how to do this. Right now - each bird has his own cage - the cages are side by side. Today, both birds are eating well, chirping, seemed settled and happy in their surroundings, so it was time to start training.
Really: Really has started to interact and play with the two toys that are in his cage.He is very tame already - loves to come out of his cage (his choice to do so) and hang out on my finger and/or my shoulder. Sometimes he likes to snuggle to my chest. I'll just keep hanging out with him like this - every now and then - I'll give him a head scritch - he's just soaking in all the attention and love. He is relaxed enough to preen himself while sitting on my finger. I'm pretty amazed. I was able to clip a couple of his toenails today while he was sitting on a perch in his cage. I still have a few more to do. I'm trying to get the clipping done w/o having to grab at him. We'll see.
PeeWee: I watched the Robin's nest videos a couple of times before attempting anything with PeeWee. He is somewhat flighty (has taken off around the room a couple of times). All sessions today were conducted inside of PeeWee's cage. I decided that I would wait for PeeWee to choose to step up onto my hand (I had some millet in this hand) and not push him to do so. I had three short sessions with him today. The first session, PeeWee sat calmly in his cage but did not choose to touch my hand in anyway. The second session, PeeWee briefly put one foot on my hand to reach to the millet. The third session, PeeWee put both feet on my hand briefly and then stepped off. He also nibbled gently at two of my fingers.
