View Full Version : What would you call Toby? Colours and mutations

I just bought an olive green budgie. I was told it was a normal darkgreen dominant pied. I'd say normal olive green dominant pied. But how do you explain the solid yellow flight wings? I was told there is such a thing as clearflights. But how to put it all together?

Yes he is developing a patch on the back of his head. He also has a navy blue tail.

What do you think?

Oh wow!!! I didn't realise there were so many beautiful colours around! How on earth do you know what is what? Which is pied, which yf1 yf2 etc etc? Sheeeesh, I'm only every going to have one!!;)

They give you a pic examples of a light green, a dark green and an olive.

Your bird is not an olive. Olive is one of the hardest colors to come by.

mindy i'm not sure what your little boy is but he is stunning...a real cutie, he'll be very happy in his new home

and kerry i was wondering is my little girl and olive as compared to the pics on the site she is much darker than the first 2

Looks like my boy Jadon, he's a Green Clear Flight. :)
Not sure if that's what your boy is, but he looks like it; Jadon also has that patch on the back of his head.

I think I figured out what Toby is. He's a yf2 single factor clearflight darkgreen pied. Does that sound right?

He's not Yf2 for sure.

Toby is definetly a Dark Green Clearflight Pied.
Julie mentioned it, plus Jadon is the same mutation.

Hello, Yes I definitely read Julie's post. But I did not get a complete view of Jadon. I thought I would check out Kerry's link to learn more and I don't understand why it isn't yf2 sf. :)

He's not a YF2 because the color yellow does not spread down to his body and change it to a different color.

yf2 will still appear blue around their butt and under their wings. :) A-n-M is right, a darkgreen clearflight pied. Very pretty!

Thanks Bea! So Toby is a darkgreen clearflight pied. It's settled then! Thanks so much, it has been a learning experience for me as I know very little about colors and mutations etc. I want to learn more but my brain is giving me a difficult time!
