As some of you may already know, my little Kiwi has been ill for several months now. We knew he wasn't looking well last night and suspected he wouldn't make it through the night. Our hunch was right. I guess it was finally too much for him. Nightie night my little big boy. I'm going to miss you. Say hi to Apollo and Skyla for me okay little buddy?

Your post brought tears to my eyes, especially the picture of giving Kiwi his medicine. Even though you knew it was coming, I know you still weren't ready. You did all you could. RIP sweet Kiwi.

Thank you so much for your kind words everyone. Nancy, you are right about not being ready. It is impossible to prepare for something like this even when you know it is coming. Kiwi fought hard for the last few months.

I must say that I was so happy to see my new budgie Gracie taking such great care of Kiwi when they were finally able to be introduced after her quarantine. That is something I will never forget.

Fly high Kiwi.

I know his last days with you were his best. He was very blessed to have you and still is to have him in your memories.

.... I only found out today. I am so sorry.
Years ago I lost a budgie after 15 years, and I was crushed.
But when they don't even reach 5 years, it is devestating. It just isn't right.

But...you did everything you could...got him the best vet. I didn't even know that x-rays were available for birds...
I think he was happy until the end.

There really was nothing else you could do.

Oh dear Budgiekin, I am really sorry for Kiwi's loss. He was a dear budgie, I loved him too, no matter I never saw him in real, because he seemed a little with my Sakis. And it's always so heartbreaking to learn that a living creature, after months of illness, didn't make it..
I really feel for you and I hope Kiwi's going to have a great time with Harry, Sakis, Apollo, Skyla and all the other budgies that left us for the Rainbow Bridge..

Kim,

Please know how sorry I am about you losing Kiwi. Nancy said the same thing that I was wanting to say - Although you knew Kiwi was ill, you can never be prepared to lose him, and there is never a right time for him to go.

I was deeply moved by the photo of Gracie and Kiwi. Isn't it something how pets can sense something wrong and they always have a way of bringing a soothing touch? Just their presence is enough to bring comfort.

Although your time with Kiwi was short, I know that you've had many fun and happy experiences with him and that will prove to be the medicine you need on those difficult days of missing him.

Hang in there Kim. Better days are ahead for you!

Donna

Thanks so much everyone. It's great to be among people who can identify with the loss of a little feathered friend. I certainly like to believe that all of the little sweeties we have lost are flying free. ;)

Oh Budgiekin,

I'm so very sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you. I know how much Kiwi meant to you. These little guys are so special and have such a special place in our hearts. Kiwi loved you very much and he knew how much he was loved. He is at peace now, no longer suffering but healthy and whole. Someday you will see him again. I will keep you in my prayers. Thank you for the support you offered me in what is a very hard time for you as well.

RIP Kiwi darling.

Thanks sammy. I miss him greatly.

I was just noticing that in one of the pictures I took of Kiwi and Gracie preening each other, they each have one of their toes crossing over the other's toe. I thought that was adorable. Gracie did such a great job of looking after Kiwi.

Thanks Anna. At least it seems that Gracie and Aries are getting along well. I'm so happy they have each other, especially because I don't think Aries would do very well as a single bird.
