whats a spider?

I'm aware they are little insect thingys with 8 legs or 6 legs or however many legs spiders have, but i mean the ones on here

on the main forum page at the bottom it says number of users online # guests # then it says spiders #....what is a spider??

Here's the answer Bea gave in that thread. She explained it better than I could I think:

I believe they are search engines gathering keywords and stuff so that Talk Budgies comes up when certain words are typed into the search on sites like msn, google, yahoo, etc. :) Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
