I found this cage at a flea market for $10, (it still had the price tag on from the orginal store "49.99" you can see it one the bottom left hand corner) so I just bought it, not sure if it's big enough for a parakeet,
Here is a pic from right after I bought it, (I have cleaned it since then)

And I found it one the Prevue Hendryx site, and it said the measurments are 26”L x 14”W, would this do for one or two parakeets?

As for the toys, I was bored a few days back so made the one with beads and ladder, then the other day I was at the dollar store and found the connecting rings.

I still need some perches but I am having a hard time finding a store that has them (I don't shop a stores that sell animals) so I planning on making some natural branch perches,(probably do that later today) and also ordering some perches and more toys off the net. (Any site suggestions?)

I also have a question about the feeders I have from my previous bird,
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j35/standuprookie/Hpim2045.jpg
would there be anyting wrong with using these for food and water.

That's a cute cage! I think it would be just fine for a parakeet.

The blue feeders that you have are just like the ones that I use. Only mine are orange. I would suggest cleaning them with bleach/clorox to kill any bacteria and it looks like they're a bit dirty. =]

Did you make all those toys yourself?

The cage would be fine for one parakeet, but no more.:)
Not sure about the feeders, they look similar to the ones that someone here had a problem with. :S

it looks like they're a bit dirty.
They are filthy, they've been in storage for at least a year, and I haven't cleaned them yet.

I just finished cleaning the cage so I may post some pics of it with all they toys later.

Edit: Here are is the cage with all the toys, (remember not finished setting up yet still needs alot)

What kind of tree/bush did you get those branches from? Some trees are poisonous to birds. I found a website you can look through as to safe trees.

Ooooh. I like it. =]
And I agree with Julie, one parakeet would be plenty for the cage.
Hahaha. That rubber duckie toy thing you have is exactly like the one I have for my 'tiel. xD

Wow, what a bargain! SUR, did you decide to get keets again? You said after you took in the tarantula that was it. Anyway, the toys look great, too!

The cage will be used for 1 keet and when/if I get another it will be turned into a Q cage.

SUR, did you decide to get keets again?
Well, yes and No I will be getting a keet, not sure when though. Most likely 6 months to a year.

The tarantula actually passed away, I was going to call and hopefully give him to the spider expert at A&M but he passed on before I got the chance. (It wasn't long after I posted about it on GPC) I didn't post about because it happened a week after my grandfather passed on and I didn't post anywhere much, and now I don't want to drag up the old thread.

What kind of tree/bush did you get those branches from?
I got them from a pecan tree which is fine for parakeets. :)

Lol, I saw it when I was buying the connecting rings and just thought it would go perfect with them.

I finished the natural perches and they came out way better than I expected,
After the cutting, cleaning, vineger, baking, ect I ended up with this,

And here they are in the cage,

And on Thursday I'm going to one of my favorite pet supply stores, it's a bit of a drive but hopefully it'll be worth it.

I went to the the pet supply store and found these,
The first thing I found was a "sand perch"
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j35/standuprookie/Hpim2055.jpg

And I also got two toys, a "rotating drum" and a "leap frog",
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j35/standuprookie/Hpim2054.jpg

The whole cage set up, (I removed one of the natural branches) The cage is almost ready for a resident, all I need is food and a cuttle bone and it will be ready, but I would like a few more toys and a rope perch first.

Those perches are so nice, you did a great job, i much prefer the natural ones.

I love all the toys, be sure not to put too many in so he has some space to move about freely though :)

Any idea when your getting a budgie?

i personally think mirrors are a bad idea. But there alright for some birds i suppose.

i personally think mirrors are a bad idea.
Me too, I have personally had a Keet get VERY attached to one after her friend passed on. (This was years ago before I knew anything about proper care)

Thanks everyone, I'm not sure when I'm going to get my bird, I will be adopting, so I have to wait for one to come up for adoption, (checking the spca site, craigslist, petfinder, petfinder classifieds, and freecycle alot lately but I think it will about 6 months to a year :( untill I end up getting him)
I also plan on having one for awhile then getting alot bigger cage and a buddy, as for the toys, I put most on the sides of the cage so the middle is free for flying, but once I buy some more I will be putting some on the outside and making a out-of-cage play area. And mabye a gym once I find some untreated wood.

Well out of the around 50 birds i have owned and still do own they all have mirrors and none are attatched or aggressive.

Standuprookie
03-23-2007, 10:41 PM
I have also had birds that never get attatched to them, and even some that ignored them completely but I wouldn't get one just incase, because if he did and I took the mirror away it would be like he lost his friend.
Oh, and to answer your question a few post back, I am hoping for either a green or blue budgie, I would also like a white or any of the 3 colors mixed. But it really depends on whos up for adoption.
