My budgie Chrissie is a female and we just recently got her. She seems unable to live with other birds and not bully them. She is constantly attacking them and is stopping them from eating and drinking. At the moment she is living with Camilla who is younger and is not as strong as her. Why is she being like this?

I assume you have them in the same cage? You should really quarantine any new budgie before adding them to the flock. 30 days is the bare minimum to keep them separate.

If your bully budgie is keeping the others from eating, you will at the very least want to have at least a couple of food and water dishes so they aren't all fighting over the same one. Better yet, it sounds like she should be caged separately.

Hmmmm. Anyone else have any ideas? :p

How about putting her separately and then putting the cages next to eachother so they can see eachother, but not interact. Then you could try adding her again.

Keep us updated!

For a while Chrissie did live on her own but then we bought Camilla. At the moment she is living with Camilla but we are thinking of moving Camilla in with Green and Pie. (My Grans male Budgie who we now pretty much own. His real name is Tweety Pie but we just call him Pie.) Is three a crowd in a medium sized budgie cage?

Well Pie is out flying every day, Green cant fly at all and Camilla is taken out every day anyway for taming. Im not sure of the measurments of the cage but it's not that big. It's more of a medium size.

well it sounds ok,as long as pie & camilla get their exercise you could give it a try. make sure camilla has things to play with this may distract her from being a bully !? let us know how it goes.

put several food dishes and water dishes she can`t hog them all. I have a budgie that is dominant. The other one accepts it but I need another swing they love to sleep in it but the tougher one (Bob) always gets it. I have tried putting him on the bottom and her on the swing then putting the blanket on but withing a couple seconds you hear them squabbleing and if you lift off the blanket you will see bob on the swing. Although a fighter or a bully can have its good sides. Today my fighter Bob was able to fight a cat that got into the house untill i noticed. He was pecking at it and kinda attacking it. It was pretty cool.
