View Full Version : Eggs, help.
Today, a female thrush died by breaking it's neck on the window.
And I've just found a nest, with Thrush eggs in, I've been going back for about an hour and still no bird sitting on them. I'm wondering whether the Thrush that died, layed those eggs.
The eggs are not warm, but not cold either, they are more cold than warm.
The male Thrush, seems to have abandomed them.
What should I do?
I could incubate them and hatch them, but I'll need your advice.
Please help.
Update: The eggs are colder and still nothing sitting on them, what should I do?
I really need some help here as I will have to make a decision by tonight or tomorrow morning. :)

well i dont really know about these things but if u really dont think the parents are coming back + u have an incubator then maybe. but i dont know if theyll survive :( sorry i couldnt be more help.
I don't have an incubator, but I have a really warm place.
Thanks!:D
Anyone else want to add anything?
I know nothing, but my guess would be that if the eggs are cold you're probably too late. Perhaps posting this on a wild birds forum will generate a better response since they have more experience with wild (non-pet) birds.
Ok, I will. The eggs aren't that cold, just colder than they were in the first place, anyway the shells may be slightly cold but inside they may be warmer, I will have another look in the morning as it is really dark now.

I think you should try to save the eggs if you can bring them to an animal shelter.
Well I'm just going to leave them just in case there mummy/daddy is still out there. And there is a 70% chance that Billy and Lily will have layed by the time I get back!
There is a female Thrush sitting on the eggs!

Horray! ^^
For future reference though it's a generally good idea to let nature take it's course, as hard as that may be sometimes.
I know, it's just with the dead bird and thhen some eggs not being sat on, I was worried!
Well if you think about it naturally those eggs shouldn't survive if the parent dies, it's just the way it goes.
But now they are being sat on by a thrush, the dead thrush wasn't the mum of those eggs!
I know, i'm just saying if it were to happen again. ;)
