Whether you're simply interested in seeing what wonderful color combinations and variations you can get when breeding budgies, or if you're trying to isolate and/or create a certain type/color of budgie, there is a book that is a must. It is BUDGERIGAR MATINGS AND COLOUR EXPECTATIONS. It was originally written by D.H. Duncker about 70 years back. It was updated and revised by R.K. Bissell in 1984. Copies may be purchased through The ABS (American Bidgerigar Society).

Mine is the 1984 edition and I'm sure it has been revised since then since there are so many new variations. At any rate, this is an invaluable tool for breeders. I tried for almost 20 years to get a copy and was elated to see ABS reprint it in 1984.

Sounds like a great book. If I ever look into breeding I'll be sure to check this out. :D

I know. Is it refurring to American budgies as a type or America's budgies?

Oops. Heck, I never was very good at typing. :-)

The American Budgerigar Society, ABS, has been around for decades. Check out their website.
