Ethel has been in her nest box all afternoon and I know she was getting close...or at least I hoped she was. She came out for a bit to eat some carrot I shredded for them and I took a peak in the nest box and was glad to see the 1st egg is here. She's in the box with it as I type. I put the nest box in for them on Sunday Feb 25th and today I am thrilled to see the 1st egg!!!...This is the 1st breeding I have done in a long time and I am excited to see the kids these 2 could have. I'll post again on Sunday if egg #2 arrives on schedule...hehe...I feel like a grandpa to be.

I just got home from work...egg #3 is here. I absolutely cannot wait!!! Thank you all...I'm excited to see what they will be. I need batteries for the digi-cam and then I'll post pics.

I have no clue what color they will be...I don't know the genetics. Mom is white...dad is blue and white...I assume either blue, white, blue/white....or who really knows since I do not know the history of either mom or dad. As long as they hatch and are healthy...I'll be happy!

I'll be taking pictures as they hatch and grow...I took my digi cam to work with me and I think it is in the car. I have guests for dinner tonight so I doubt I will take any this evening, but I will put pics on here before the next one hatches...the next one would be due to come on Thursday.:D

baby #2 is here...a day early I believe. The2nd egg wasn't laid until March 11th. The first one is bigger already I swear. I'm going to take a few pictures to post in a little bit. Both babies have full crops and look well.:D

#4 has hatched out this morning.....all going well with the babies. I will try to get some new pictures on here today or tomorrow. 2 more eggs to go:D

there are now 5 babies:budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: ..hehe!!.....I will take pictures soon and put on here I promise. with so many mouths to feed Fred is a 1 man eating machine...sure mom helps, but she spends most of her time in the nest box. I've given them a variety...veggies, seeds, pellets, and they get boiled egg twice a day offered to them for a short time. Shockingly enough they took to it right away. Baby #1 is a week old today and the youngest just hatched today...there is still 1 more egg to go and it is fertile and will hatch probably Thursday if it is not a day early and surprises me tomorrow....I never thought all 6 eggs would be good to go, but they are. That makes the parents busy busy feeding machines, but they are good at it. At times both of them are in the nestbox doing the feeding. I've been keeping a close eye on the smallest babies to make sure they are getting their fair share to eat, but they are...full little crops!! It's a 5 baby pile up in the nest box, sometimes I have to move them around just to make sure they are all there. Mom doesn't mind me visiting for short periods, she just looks at me and when she's had enough she puffs up and spreads her wings out over her kids and looks at me with that " OK GET LOST LOOK"

thank you...I'll post pics galore as they start growing more. I'm going to have to do something to get better quality pics, but for now this is what I got. Today was a little scary.....egg#6 was supposed to hatch and they have all hatched in the morning hours....well at 4pm it was having trouble.....I assisted a little bit and helped crack the egg more and he hatched in my hand. Ethel came to him as soon as she heard him chirping and I left them alone to get aquainted and such. I think that was a close call, I'm not really sure that it could have finished hatching on it's own. I'm really glad I was here to help. That makes a complete clutch of 6 eggs hatched....now they just have to grow up and be happy budgies!

despite a very sleepless nite and all efforts exhausted.....apparently the last baby just was too weak and did not survive. It did seem much smaller than the rest when they first hatched, perhaps it just wasn't meant to be for this one. I should be happy that 5 of 6 are growing and looking good, after all this is Ethel's very first clutch. It is still sad to have to lose one.

All the kids are growing...I am cleaning out the dirty nest box this evening...so good time for pics... looks like they will all be blue & white kids. The last chick might be all white, but I doubt it. It's just getting it's fuzz.

About your camera, the majority of digital cameras have a macro option:

If you have that option, it'll be perfect for taking the pictures, because the macro mode takes extreme close-ups and they should turn out nice and clear =3

Also....hehe...who ever knew how fast these little guys can soil a nest box...I'm changing that tonight as well...baby birdies keep you on your toes, but they are SOOOOO worth the effort!

Oh my how time flies when birds multiply...hehe..I feel bad because I haven't been on here so much, but I have been SUPER busy. The babies ...which are soon to leave the nest box are doing well. I have been taking them out one at a time every night and trying to give them plenty of human contact so that they are somewhat tame. The oldest baby spends all of it's time hanging out in the nest box entrance..I've been waiting for it to come on out. It is time!!!!..LOL...When I take it out it sits on my finger and grooms and can fly a little. I am using food when I take them out....finely shredded carrots are gobbled up when I have them out and working on being friendly. I have only 1 that is a big BITER..and it hurts!! It bites me when I pick it up, it bites me when it's on my finger and it bites me sometimes for fun I swear!!!...It does get better once I put the food in my hand for it, I believe it associates me with food now and that's why it bites me...it wants those carrots!! More to come and new pictures I will post over the weekend. I apologize for not posting more often. My first adventure into breeding has been busy...so anyone thinking of breeding just please do realize how much time and effort goes into each clutch...ecspecially if you are working on tame babies that are parent fed. I couldn't even imagine how exhausted I would be if I would have hand fed......don't mind my complaining....It is soooo worth the effort! Nothing is sweeter than little budgies learning to trust you!
