I wonder if I even spelt that right...
I was wondering, when do budgies start to moult? I was only asking 'cause Petri's been losing an awful lot of little 'fluffs' as I call them, and the other day I think he lost a little tail feather. But it was only that one feather, and no more so I think she's happy and stuff, so maybe she's moulting? Or is it just different for each budgie?

Its differnet for each budgie is that the budgie up there in the pic.She or he dosent have pin feathers does she.She might just be starting moulting if she/he is losing lots of fluff (down feathers),and a tail feather she is probably moulting my budgie is also moulting right now.I wish I could show you but I dont have a cammera he is almost finnished and has many pin feathres.I think they moult becaus eof the weather changes its spring now and winter just past I guess not sure on this one but...ill have to leave the rest for someone that knows sorry?

I think it has to do with the lighting and what season they think it is....since they are not really out in the wild they depend on you for thier time of day beggining and ending.

A budgies 1st molt is normally around 3 months of age,my 3 are all around this age & all have started to molt.molting is related to the length of the day & the seasons temperature, because most of our pet budgies live indoors they can experience different light & temperatures therefor they can molt at anytime. hope this helps :)

Well, Petri lives in the living room, in front of a large picture window, and we never use the lights in the living room, so I don't think its a question of artificial lighting...She doesn't have pin feathers or anything yet...And we only turn on the heat when it gets too cold for the baby and stuff..But it HAS been getting a lot warmer..^^ We'll see, I'll keep you posted.

This is her first moult and they always begin that by losing lots of fluffies. Ozzie's just beginning to lose fluffies now. :P
