I thought I would start a training journal today. I'm going to start out with the setup of the cage (pictures included).
So, Charlie And Loofah's cage is a 22" across x 17" deep x 26" high cage with 1/2 inch bars. You can see it here (http://www.goldencockatoo.com/victoriantop.html)
It consists of two java wood perches (which can be seen here (http://www.birdsupplies.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=KCJMBX)) A rope toy (image attached), a five step ladder (which can be seen here) and two food bowls which are on the ground at this point (image attached.)
I know birds are supposed to have tons of toys, but they don't really play. They are mainly little perch potatoes. I feed then the seed diet of the KAYTEE Forti Diet for parakeets (which can be found here (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=kaytee+forti+diet+for+parakeets&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=7962329493453733257&sa=X&ei=fSAeTu6dBqrk0QGXtaDzBw&ved=0CFYQ8wIwAQ))
I also include fresh food (brocoli, carrots, lettuce, cucumber, etc.) every day along with fresh water.
I clean the KAYTEE walnut soil (this product can be found here (http://www.kaytee.com/products/walnut-litter.php)) of soiled bits daily, and replace it twice a week. NOTE: Even though the page said it should not come in contact with birds, I found that the pet store and many breeders use this soil with direct contact. I do not think there is a problem, and the birds are fine with it.
I also provide them with nutri berries, which are crumbled into their seed (these can be found here (http://www.goldencockatoo.com/767.html)). Also, as an ocasional treat, I add bits of dried papaya to their toys, food and perches (image of treat attached). This is my first of owning parakeets, but if you have any suggestions on what I should be doing, please tell me.
Thank you,
Chase :budge:
P.S: I decided to start my journal this way, and will be adding training later. Thank you for your cooperation, and please do not move this to another forum. :budgie:
