View Full Version : A change in our site guidelines

Hi everyone!
So, as the title suggests, the staff has made some changes to the guidelines of Talk Budgies. We have been talking it over for some time now, and we decided that it would be best for the forum to change them.
One of the major differences is that we got rid of the "levels" of rules. Now, we have a page of guidelines that we hope you will follow, plus a description of the guideline underneath it. In addition, we organised them into sections, such as "respect", "copyright", "posting pictures", etc.
You will also notice that we have added and taken away some rules. The ones taken away were the rules that the staff felt were not broken enough to be considered a rule, or ones that the staff usually lets slide because it causes no real harm. The guildelines that were added, obviously, are the ones the staff noticed have been broken a few times, but as they were not on the rule list before, we could not do anything about it.
So I would encourage everyone to read carefully through the new rules. They take effect as of posting this thread. If you have any questions about the guidelines, need clarification, etc., please ask below or PM one of the staff and we will be happy to help.
Thanks!

Hi Brandon. I think the new rules are well adjusted. :)
DON'T FEED THE TROLLS :troll:

I think you guys made some good improvements.
Oh, one thing. I understand the "no birds with predators or outside without a harness," but does that only go for budgies and domestic birds? What if you have some wild bird photography that you want to share? Would that be bad?

Wild bird photography is fine. :) What we are trying to avoid is having pictures posted of pet birds in potentially risky situations (which includes being uncaged or unharnessed when outside and being in the presence of predatory and/or non-bird animals...)
We recognize that it is impossible to cover absolutely everything in site guidelines but our goal is to provide as much of a positive experience using the site as possible.

I just finished reading it. Nicely fine-tuned I think. There are some additions that members need to be aware of so lets hope everybody reads the new Guidelines.
Great job Admin.

Talk Budgie Staff, I think you've done a tremendous job with the updated guidelines. Thanks for your hard work!

Don't really see anything different
and they've been the same for the last 3 years
if it says Last updated May 8,2008
how was anything changed recently?
Just a little confused. as I saw nothing that seemed any different other than how it was laid out.

That's the last update for the Signatures section. The last update date for the guidelines themselves is toward the top of the page, right above the forum guidelines. :)

Quick question - if a rule was not there in the first place - how could it have been broken?
Very confusing :S

I see what you are getting at there. Allow me to try to rephrase it. The rules that were added were rules that the staff have wanted to PM members about a few times, but because they were not actual rules at the time, we couldn't really do anything about it. Ahh it's hard to explain, but the ones were added, the staff feel that they will hopefully improve forum life for the members.
Hopefully that makes a little more sense. I hope. :P

:giggle: not really Brandon - but don't worry about it. They are all pretty straight forward enough ;)

Sorry. :P If I think of an amazing way to explain later, I will be sure to post on here. ;)

How about Instead of calling them rules(Before they actually were) it would be more like "issues that had caused problems in the past, That the Staff would of liked to PM members about and inform them it wasn't proper, BUT since they were never written in the rules They could not be pm'd about because in hindsight they really weren't breaking any rules. they were just things the staff didn't think was appropriate even if they weren't rules before hand.
Make sense?

I don't "get" what a thread is or where to write on the "thread". You may for your own sanity want me to go away, but I'd like to at least try. I would like to go to the New Members area. Thanks

Hi There and welcome.
This here is a thread and you made a post in it.
To start a new thread you go to the area you wish to post - ie Introductions and select the button which states NEW TOPIC, you are then able to create a thread for others to reply to.
I hope that makes sense and looking forward to seeing your first thread ;)

Welcome to the forum! :D
Thread – A thread is the forum word for a topic. As a matter of fact, the thing you are reading right now is a thread.
This thread will help you on how to post one :)

Just now got around to reading this thread, and finally read the guidelines. Want to encourage EVERYONE to follow the guidelines about judgmental or "defamatory" posts. TB should be educational, enjoyable, informative, supportive, and FUN. If you're thinking of posting a reply that will make the post-er or anyone else feel bad, either think of a nicer way to word your comments, or don't reply - in the words of Thumper the rabbit to Bambi the deer, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say nuthin' at all!"
Have seen some heated debates and rude comments recently - stuff like that can suck the fun out of TB! (The majority of posts are hunky-dory, of course!)
Remember to be helpful, y'all. :)
