EDIT: Turns out "she" is actually a "he"
So today I have gotten a new budgie. (I have not yet named her.) She is a lutino (is that how its spelled?) and is very pretty. The man who we got her from says she comes from a pretty calm flock, so that gives me some hope.
I can tell shes pretty young, and today three of my young cousins (One 6, one 4, and one 2,) came over. They shreiked and screamed, but she did pretty good. She sings alot already. I'm giving her some time to settle in.

Good first post to your journal.
Now that you know she is a "He", what are you going to name him?

Hmmm.. I'm not sure yet. I'm waiting to see more of his personality first.

Day two
I decided on naming him Phoenix.
He escaped!! I was holding my hand in there for him to get used to it, and he flew right out. His wings were clipped, or so the man said. Perhaps I need to clip them shorted?
After a long chase, I caught Phoenix and put him in his cage. He scraped up the skin on his beak (I forgot the name of it) and hes kind freaked out, but all in all hes fine.
I bet this was a major set back :(

Could you have simply shut the door to the room Phoenix was in when he excaped?
You would have been better off not to chase him when he got out of the cage. Sitting by the cage and talking quietly to him might have been a better option. Right now the cage is his "safe" place. He would have gone back into it on his own after he calmed down from the fright of your hand being in the cage with him. :o
I would not clip his wings and, if they've already been clipped, I certainly wouldn't even consider clipping them shorter. My two are not "tamed" and I let them have out-of-cage time to fly and play every day. They are birds, so I want them to be able to fly!:)

He's very cute :) I may be wrong, but I'm not sure he is considered a lutino because he has blue in his body, I think he may be some sort of dominant pied? (I'm sure an expert will come along to confirm) Does he have red eyes? Also, be very careful with wing clipping because it can go from acceptable to dangerous very quickly :o Congrats on your new addition :)

The room he was in dosent have a door-he was in the TV room which opens up to the kitchen and upstairs -_- he had so many places to go it was hard to get him. And my grandparents have five indoor and outdoor cats and I had to catch him fast because I didn't know if any cats were in. It was a scary moment!
But is it a good idea to put him in my room and let him fly free with the door closed? Or should I wait til he is tamed to do that?

*How big is the cage?
*Is the cage easily moved into your bedroom?
*Where do you plan on keeping Phoenix most of the time?
*Where were you planning to let him out after he has been tamed?
I chose to keep Sunny and Shelby's cage in my bedroom because I want to be able to let them fly and, I don't expect to ever have them fully "tamed". It is simply my personal preference.
I spend a lot of time in that room, reading, listening to music, interacting with the birds, etc. so that works for me. It may not work for you to have your cage in the bedroom. If your cage is large, you may not plan on giving Phoenix out-of-cage time each day.

I'm not in my room that often, so he wouldn't get very much interaction. And I don't have room in my bedroom. Maybe when I'm able to handle him I'll set some food in my room and let him fly.

Day three
I wasn't able to work with him today due to me being to busy. I'll make up for this lost day tomarrow.

Day four
Today we made a break-through.
I was sitting by his cage, whistling to him. He was on the perch that is about 3 in. from the cage wall. Just to see how it would go, I reached up and real slowly, put my hand on the cage wall in-front of him.
He shifted his feet alittle, but he really just stood there. I felt so happy, because when I first got him, I couldn't get within a foot of him with out Phoenix freaking out. :D :D :D
