I have to share a lovely little story with you:
A few weeks ago, I heard from a budgie girl that laid eggs without stopping.
The vet and some breeders suggested getting her a budgie mate, because the reason for the constant egg-laying was that she was a solitary kept budgie that got very frustrated over the years because she had no mate.
The mum of the owner (a very nice boy around 16 years) could not manage to keep two budgies. So the boy did a very selfless thing: he searched a new home for his little budgie girl. I found his post in a forum, because I was searching for a budgie girl for my colleague – one of her hens died, and the widower was very unhappy.
We got her on a Friday. The former owner cried and said “I only want her to be happy”. It was nearly breaking my heart.
The little hen moved with my colleague, and after a check up at the vet, she was added to the little budgie flock (a couple and the widower).
Guess what happened? She got to know the widower, and fell in love immediately. And the widower did, too! After only four days together (and some little fights trying to find out whoŽs stronger), they sat together, he was feeding her, and they were chucking each others heads. My colleague says, that this little hen turned out to be the biggest love in the life of the former widower. He is taking care of her, watching her and to try to convince her that he is the best, most beautiful and nicest cock ever.
The former owner of the little hen is very happy now. He misses her badly, but he would never want her back, because now, she is a happy bird.
This is the end of my story (and hopefully the beginning of a long lasting love of these two budgies).
