Hi I was wondering if anyone knows if it is ok to leave my 2 parakeets while I am away. I am leaving on Friday morning and will return Monday night . I have no one to care for them so is there some way to feed them while I am gone. Any advice is appreciated. I am a new bird owner and don't know what to do! :Thanks!
That's too long to just leave them, even if you were to put lots and lots of food in their cage. If you can't find someone to take care of them perhaps you could check at your local vet and see if they can't take them for the few days you'll be away. Or a local shelter perhaps? If you absolutely can't find anyone is there anyway you can take them with you? I know someone else had a similar problem recently and her budgie ended up going camping. :D

I have no way of taking them with me. I am flying and with two small kids alone. I think there is a bird breeder in our neigborhood she has tons of parrots so I was thinking of asking her but I don't know her- just of her and I wonder if this would be rude to ask her to take the cage to her house -for pay of course????Do you think I could use water bottles that are like self feeding and then leave lots of treats and extra food -as a last resort, if I can't find care for them?

I would not try to leave them...the water bottles can sometimes get stuck with seeds and leave your budgie with no other source of water....any family ar friends?
Mmm....you really do need to find someone to care for them. :( It would be irresponsible as a pet owner to leave them. Have you called any vets, shelters? Looked in the phone directory for pet sitters? Asked neighbours, friends, family, someone from work? Umm...you could see if there is anyone on this forum in the same area as you. Someone on another forum went on hols for 5 weeks and it just happened that we live very close to each other, so i took care of her budgie.
Catsova, where do you live?
