About three or four years ago, my older sister gave me a budgie. I named him Flap. Flap was unable to fly, having been born that way. He was a great bird. I bonded with him, and we were very close. He lived in the avairy with the other budgies, but was able to hop up onto the lower perches with the branches we put in there for him to climb up to it on.
When he was about six months old, I came in to find he had vanished. It was dark, so I got a torch and had a good look about. He was nowhere to be seen. I looked outside the avairy, and eventually found him outside, nearby the door. We kept him inside that night, and the next morning I spent a good couple of hours looking about the avairy, searching every bit of it to find a way he could have escaped. I couldn't find the slightest crack or hole, torn wire or anything, even were only the flying birds could reach. We kept him inside for a few days, before putting him back in the avairy, keeping a good eye on him. He seemed fine. After three or four days, though, we couldn't find him again. I found him a short distance from the avairy.
After that, still unable to find any way he could have gotten out, we kept him inside for a month, constantly searching the avairy. All of the other birds were fine, and we could find nowhere at all where there was a possibility any budgie could have gotten out. We put him back in the avairy.
A couple of nights later, we couldn't find Flap. This time, we didn't find him again. I cried for some time. I had such a connection with that bird. But the mystery was, how did he get away?
That was a few years ago. We never found a way Flap or any other animal could have gotten out, and none of the other budgies escaped. How on earth, we still wonder, did Flap get out of the avairy?
