Help!My male budgie is sick!

He is puffed out and breathing wierd gasping.He is eating and drinking fine but not active he is not on the bottom of the cage he is on his pearch,but he is also moulting could ths be a problem?I dont want to brong him to the vets!

Oh dear, you'd better take him to the vets even if you don't want to, it my be his only chance of survival.
I hope he's alright.

joey he may have a respiratory problem,is he sneezing ? is there any discharge from the nostrils ? wheezing ? and if he,s not active & puffed up all the time then there is something wrong. You may have to take him to the vet if he doesnt improve.keep us updated. what are the droppings like ??

Thre eis no discharge,or naything just gasping for air!His droppings are grey..:S they are not normal!:(

Well thanks for the advice I took him in right after,but it was expensive 56.99+tax CAD + The antibiotics.Blue had a resperietory infection.The veterainarian gave me 8 tablets to put inside his drinking water and he should be,better in five days thank God!Thanks guys I dint want to loose him.Ive had him scince he was 6 weeks old,and he is 2 now.Thanks alot.I dint think it was taht serious.

I'm glad you decided to take him to the vets. With budgies it's important to take them as soon as you notice something even slightly wrong as that is usually the only signs you'll get before it's too late.

I am so proud of you Joey for brining your little sweetie to the vets! Believe me, paying the 60 bucks is better than having a sick or even worse, dead, budgie. Pat on the back for you!! :p

That's the attitude my dad has too but i figuire that a budgie's worth so much more than the initial cost just in the joy they can bring to someone's life. It's because they're 'cheap' pets. If someone adopted a dog from the pound for $200 or whatever the adoption fee is and then had to spend $1000 on vet bills i'm sure they wouldn't say "i could have adopted 5 dogs for that price", it's all in the way people look at it. I personally don't believe in putting a value on a pet's head. :):budge:

Just another thing, i used to think the price of seeing an avian vet was outrageous too but the reason they charge more is because birds take more time to look at than dogs and cats. A vet can see about 4 dogs/cats in an hour but only 1-2 birds. :)
