you must not have seen my question amy

Bea
03-01-2007, 03:57 PM
They're two of the birds that came with the aviary, her parents set them up for breeding i think?

Amy
03-01-2007, 05:32 PM
Yep, they are their pair. :D I think she's going to lay soon, her poos are gigantic! We have a CCTV camera looking in the box, watching her. :P

BUUZBEE
03-01-2007, 05:33 PM
so i take it they are not in the aviary anymore?

Amy
03-01-2007, 05:34 PM
The avairy isn't up yet. :P

BUUZBEE
03-01-2007, 05:36 PM
ahh ok. Where are all the birds?

Amy
03-01-2007, 05:37 PM
In my house, but Cherry and Blueberry are spending a week at my friend's house. :D

BUUZBEE
03-01-2007, 05:38 PM
you know i'm going to ask lol.....

seperated from your flock right???

Amy
03-01-2007, 05:45 PM
Deffinitely!! :P They are in separate rooms, new birdies downstairs, old flock up. :)

BUUZBEE
03-01-2007, 05:48 PM
OMG with that many birds, i can only imagine how loud they are being, calling to each other! lol

Amy
03-01-2007, 05:48 PM
Sure is! *Covers ears* Still, it's quite nice. :P

Amy
03-02-2007, 12:23 PM
Ok..

UPDATE:
Wow. I have lots of faith in this pair, and may be swapping pairs with my parents! Rosie's poops are growing everyday, and she rarely does any. She spends a looooong time in the box, and it seems as if she only goes at to do a poop. :P

EDIT: Just spoken to my parents, we've swapped pairs, Peppa and Petrie are now my parents breeding pair. :P

Amy
03-04-2007, 11:01 AM

Amy
03-08-2007, 01:10 PM
Egg 2 due tomorrow.. egg 1 is still warm!

Is it usual for a female to start incubating the egg at this stage? I've read they only begin sitting on them when the 3rd egg arrives? Or am I muddled?

BUUZBEE
03-08-2007, 01:42 PM
first time hens will usually take longer to sit on them, but if this isnt their first clutch, then she knows what shes doing. for me, this clutch is Stumpy's 2nd clutch. Last year she started sitting on the 3-4 eggs, this time she was on the 1st one as soon as she laid it!
you have a good mommy! congrats :)

Amy
03-08-2007, 02:05 PM

Here are some pictures! :D

Amy
03-08-2007, 03:12 PM

Touch the eggs as little as possible. Get a pen light and candle the eggs with out touching them, it'll be a lot safer. :) When you handle the eggs germs from your fingers can pass through the egg shell and affect the chicks development. Even if you wash your hands unless you wipe them on a sterile towel they're going to be germy. :P

Amy
03-09-2007, 03:47 AM
Ok Bea, I'll get them as clean as I can, and maybe not even pick it up to candle it. :)

I'm going to do it now.. I'll post what I see! :D

Amy
03-09-2007, 03:53 AM
Ok well, there's SOMETHING in it, I'm not too sure what. There were like these light lines, and like some dark stuff.

I have some bad news. :( All of the eggs have been eaten, so there are none left to live. :(

Amy
04-07-2007, 12:44 PM
Sure thing. The eggs are no where to be seen, so the only thing that could have happened is they have been eaten. It's sad really, no babies, or even eggs to look at as expected. Oh well, it was fun! I think I will breed again sometime, maybe with another pair.

And Buuzbee.. Of course my Auntie came around my house. :P I'd dread to think what would happen to eggies in a car!

pal0m1n0
04-07-2007, 01:42 PM
Do you know if this pair had babies before? I wonder what makes them decide to destroy and eat eggs. I know Budgie ate the shells or broke them up really fine after they hatched and the only egg I have known her to eat was one that was already broken, and it was still fairly fresh.

Amy
04-07-2007, 02:03 PM
Nope, the pair have not bred before, but are of a good breeding age

what concerns me is that when they were candled, 2 were fertile, and were well developed before amy left.

Amy

Precisely. I just hope they didn't eat any still fertile ones!

LOL they must have if you cant find them!

Bea
04-09-2007, 08:14 PM
They probably did eat the fertile eggs. Some hens will even eat chicks after they've hatched. :( I'm not sure i would breed from that pair again if you suspect they ate the eggs so late in the incubation period...

Star
04-09-2007, 09:30 PM
Sorry this happened amy. But I have heard of parents eating fertile eggs and live babies, so I guess it is possible. I wish you luck with your next pair.

Well she ate them all after none hatched. The last hatch date was the 3rd I think. She finished eating them on the 6th I think. So prehaps none where going to hatch anyway, maybe the fertile eggs didn't survive? Who knows. Anyway, Rosie and JIm are now back in the aviary with the others happily destroying toys and perches. :)

Thats really sad for you Amy. I had been watching this post on and off hoping that everything would be great. I'm a little confused about the egg eating though, i had never heard of this before. In one of your posts it says you had CCTV in there - did that not pick up what happened?
I hope everything goes well for you next time around
