breeding budgies

i dont know if my budgies have mated yet but this is what they do the female leans over with her tail up in the air the masle starts to get ontop of her but never gets all the way they have dont this many times im pretty sure they are trying to mate but i dont understand why he wont go all the way up does anyone know? another thing is that the female is always in the nestbo when i went to go put more material in the nestbox yeterday she got really mad she opend her beak she even got really big what can this mean will they ever mate? and lay eggs?:S

I think it sounds like she will eventually lay some eggs but don't rush them it all sounds natural to me!

why doesnt my male ever go in the box and why doesnt he ever go rite on her back when mating?

i have said there age many times my male is 2 and my female is 3 !!!

How about taking the nestbox out for 1-3 weeks then re-introducing it?

i did that already i put it back 2 weeks ago i just want to know does billy and lily do that does lily lean over for him and he doesnt go all the way ontop of her but he goes half way because that is what mine do i have never seen him all the way ontop?

They're not suppose to go right on top, I'd just wait for it to happen, I hope you won't have to wait long!

They sort of hang on the side....if that makes sense.:o They've quite possibly mated when you're not looking.

well, when breeding loads of budgies like we do we occasionally find that we get a pair that just arent compatible and wont mate, nothing wrong with them, they try but fail. if this happens there is nothing you can really do unless you wait an wait.

also when we breed we find budgies from ages 1 - 2.5 are at the best breeding ages, and also about 4-5 can be quite succesful, age doenst really have anything to do with it but obviously a 13 yr old wouldnt breed, or not as good anyway.

4 and definitely 5 is getting too old for breeding. Breeding age is 1-3 years though some breeders keep their hens breeding till 4 and cocks are usually used until they're 5 or so.

when the female is ready for mating she should sit almost horizontal on a perch.she will lay her head back.she should then lift up her tail feathers and stay still like this.the male budgie usually understands this as a signal.he then should go on her back.he should wrap both of his wings around her & holds on with his beak.he then presses his vent to the females vent. I have read and researched that sometimes cage kept budgies do not breed at all !! im not sure how true this is,it would be intresting if members could tell us if they have breed caged budgies ? so dont be to dissapointed,let nature take its course.

well see the male doesnt go rite on the female he doesnt wrap his wings all they do is she bends over he puts on leg on her and hell bob his head that is all they do could that be breeding they just did that 10 min ago and if they have mated y are there no eggs yet?

still the same its just that might she be prgnant because i have never seen him actually on top of her is that normal because this has been going on for a while

Some budgies dont go directly on yop.They just touch the spot...you know....people have different ways of doing it.....but...lol...anyways When she puts her tail up she wants to mate with the male,and eventually she will start to lay...FUNNY:)
