Tail Feathers

Emily broke all of her tail feathers so I was wondering if they would ever grow back in? Her bum looks so nakey with only one long one left. =]

yup, normally they will grow back with the next molt. they really do look funny without them dont they! lol

They would probably grow back after molt or after she pulls them out herself. If they don't come out by themselves, I would take them out myself (imho). I know most people wouldn't do it themselves so a vet would be handy.

Hehe. Yes, she does look very funny without it. And it's so cute when she preens that one tail feather. =3

I don't think I'd be able to take it out myself. If it comes to it, I can take her to a vet. =x

Usually physically removing the whole feather will start feather growth to replace that feather. This will also naturally happen when the bird molts a new feather will push the old broken feather out. So yes, it will grow new tailfeathers.

haha lol, thats the exact question i hade with Tuffy and Delorean. Tuffy's feathers have grown back in nicely within the peiod of his molt. Tuffy's tail still looks silly, BUT alot better than before. Now delorean's feathers were cut off :eek: and havn't grown back yet. But the vet said that they should come back within less than two years

Dallas currently has no tail feathers hehe :P She's still a little beauty though.
