Butzie adopted me 12 1/2 years ago. I made an agreement with him - I'll feed you if you don't eat my budgies. We have both kept our sides of the bargain. He is still mainly an outdoor cat, coming in for food, lovin' and sometimes to sleep. We keep an eye on him when he is eating in the kitchen because my budgies fly there. A familiar question in our house is "I have to go to the bathroom! Can somebody else come into the kitchen?" Butzie has never attacked any of my birds, even when Whitey Ford decided to take a bath in the water side of Butzie's dish when Butzie was eating food from the other side. He gave me a look that said, "Lady, I know we made a deal but isn't this stretching my genetic makeup?" I think I am very lucky to have such a good cat. Ro

I have a cat too, and budgie has walked into the cat food dish when Ginger was eating. The first time Budgie walked towards Ginger when Ginger was eating, apparently the food fell out of Ginger's mouth. :) My husband saw it.

Wow I would be scared half to death if I had a cat around my budgies.
I guess I'm a non trusting person!!

My cat is old and has cataracts, but I still wouldn't leave her alone in a room with them. :)

I don't leave Butzie alone with my budgies, but I do trust him. About 14 years ago, I lost a budgie and decided to get a parrot. Did a lot of research and got a hand-fed Amazon from a breeder. Liberty attached herself to me. We moved and I had a son. She was terribly jealous and tried to attack him a number of times. Still loved her and hoped she would change. 1 day I was in the kitchen which is very long and has a huge island. I was at 1 end of the island and my son was in a booster seat on a chair on the other side. Liberty was on a T-stand on his left and the cat was eating on his right. He undid his booster seat strap and fell to the floor. Liberty jumped down from her perch. I yelled "Liberty, no!" Got to my son. Liberty was a foot away from him on the floor in full agressive display. Butzie was next to my son in full crouch ready to attack Liberty if she went after my son. I conforted my son, put Liberty in her cage and gave Butzie a can of salmon. Kept son and Butzie, found a new home for Liberty, and went back to budgies.

Awww bless Butzie! what a good kitty! I can only imagine what was going thru his head when the birdie landed in the food area, could he be more daring! lol

I have 3 cats. 1 I totally dont trust with anybird. when kates birds are out, shes in her bedroom with the door closed. the conures are on my shoulder or talbe so i dont worry too much, and the others are caged. I dont leave them unsupervised though.

I hae 2 cats...when my budgies are out the cats are shut in another room...i leave the cats out with the GCC though, mainly cause the GCC is like velcro on me, and the cats are afraid of her, they run the other way if she comes near them.

I have had between 14 and 3 cats (at the moment we have 2 cats and 3 kittens) but although they are house cats they arent in the same room as my budgie. My last budgie Teto was in charge of the house, he terrorised, Roxie my chihuahua, all the time, landing on her back, playing with her toys, forcing her out of her bed. Roxie is too scared to do anything back!!

What a good kitty!
I have a 14 year old cat Cleo. She's never met my birds, I wouldn't trust her. :p

I have a cat, well a kitten. :) Her name is Josey, so far it's been good since she hasn't really bothered Bluebell or Nero. I did catch her looking but as long as she doesn't touch then it's ok. I have decided she will be an indoor cat due to certain circumstances and for what I don't want to happen again like last time I had a cat. My nextdoor neighbour pinched it and lured it in with food and now it lives there. :( But she is happy. :)

Anyway this will be different... Hope everything goes well... ;)

I have a cat, Whisper. Heh, if she was left in a room with my birds... Nope, I'd never let that happen.

I wish I had a cat. :(
Cats are my all time favorite between a dog or a cat.
The just seem so mysterious to me.

Oh indeed they are mysterious animals but they can be affectionate too. Some people see two sides to them, a natural animal that seems to follow that they are in the wild and other side another happy chappy type of pet. :) Both are true, they have instincts but can still be great pets.

A tip for those who have birds and cats and I find this does work.... Put orange peel or oranges around each side of the cage. For some reason a lot of cats detest them and backs away...

I used to have a cat. My first pet was a cat named Tweety.
Then about 2 years ago my Grandma found a stray in the woods behind her house. I took the cat in and named her Abby. About a month later, out popped 5 kittens! We never knew she was pregnant because when we saved her, she was sooooooo skinny. And when she was fed, she still didn't gain much weight. But after she gave birth, she really started to gain weight. I couldn't keep the kitties because our dog would've killed them. And I hate keeping animals outside unless they're outside animals (like a cow).

but i love all animals and want to be a vet

That reminds me of a funny story. When we have company, I always ask before I let my budgies out of their cage. One time I did not ask because the visitor was a student going to veterinary college. I assumed that somebody who planned to be a vet would not be afraid of two little birds...
I was wrong! The girl became hystercial and ran out of the room:eek:

I have no idea if she ever became a vet. But I have a feeling she did not become an avian vet:D

i have 3 cats, 1 male and 2 girls, all neutered, i dont trust any of them with my birds, the only 1 whos doesnt look at them is the male (felix) even then i dont trust him, felix and the girls (poppy & tikko) are locked out firmly when the birds are getting their excersise, i have already lost a couple of my babies through to sneaky cats, so never again

I don't have cats, but volunteer at a cat shelter every Friday.
Sorry, can't resist posting pictures!
Here's Parker, one of my favorites that I'm socialising at the moment:

And the resident cat that had to have her ear flaps removed.

The budgies are always flying around and climbing on me before I go to the rescue and the cats never seem to smell them or anything.

The cat actually always stand outside my door meowing all pathertic like so I put the birds away and let him in and he goes running to where there p[laystand is expecting them to still be there and they're not, but he's never really shown much interest in them so I'm thinking about moving their cage lower again so it can be wider...
