at only six weeks old she has just fledged from the nest.

Get some hand rearing feed and give her that as she has not yet learnt how to eat the food as mum and dad have feed her up until now.

grate some apple and carrot and offer them to her only a small amount and don't leave it in the cage any more than 1/2 hour as it has a tendency to go off.

keep trying with the fresh vegies and fruit as a supplement to her seed, and you will have one happy baby.

Avril has given great advice. :)
In the future if she's still hooked on oats, groats and millet; try measuring her food. Budgies require 2 tsp of seed per day. :)

:)
thank you for the tips

last night i had filled her dish with only groats & millet, & wouldn't you know it - she had scooped all of this out as well. i had her in a seperate room, so i think it may be seperation anxiety.

i have her visiting with the rest of the flock right now & she's beginning to poke around a little (the others are having an evening siesta). she gets picked on &/or ignored by all of them & i can't understand why she would miss this treatment :S

"groats" is just another name for hilled oats. oops:o i mean HULLED oats. the term "Oats & Groats" is just a marketing label. ...now i'm wondering why hulled barley isn't called "grbarley"...doesn't exactly roll off the tongue i guess :p

I am curious, how come her mom started badgering her and what about the dad? Are there others in the nest? Could she be safely put in a cage in the same room as the other birds? At least she could see the others, as long as they don't try to attack her through the bars. I am assuming they are out of their cages for most of the day.

At 6 weeks old she should be weaned. Could you put the dad in with her? He will show her how to eat and top her up if she needs a bit of babying. :) If you're worried about her not eating normal seed try putting her on canary or finch seed with fewer/no oats or groats. :)

thanks, i'll try again this weekend with her & dad in a seperate cage.
she is still acting terrified when i approach her with my hand. i suppose i have to be more patient & let her adjust to life outside the nest. i just want to be her friend :( i feel so bad for her & how her mom treats her :crying:

mom was still in breeding mode when Christmas left the nest, & i have read repeatedly that unless the flock is in an aviary (mine are not) the breeding hen will attack the babies - in some cases fatally - that have left the nest to make sure they don't interfere with the next brood.
