I placed apples in the cage so many times I almost gave up! Finally yesterday Ricky was the brave one and tried to eat it (he's the master of the universe). Soon the other birds followed, and now ... you should see them tear it up! They eat like the world will end in 2 hours! And they are really eating it not just tearing it apart. So today I tried to put broccoli in (again). They only smelled it and went back to the apple slices. Oh well, I can't ask for too much in one day. I'll keep trying though.

Congratulations :) I'm glad you have tried the veggies as well. Don't worry, they will start tearing the broccoli as well. :)

Good for you! Glad you stuck with it!!:jumping1:
If you want to try something different I can highly recommend Beak Appetit. My birds line up waiting for me to hurry up and spoon this stuff out for them. For budgies you need to get the ones for smaller birds: Veggie Heaven, Apple Carrot Harvest or Veggie Delight. If you local pet shop does not carry this product you can get in on line at http://www.beakappetit.com/products.html
I can also recommend Crazy Corn, the budgies prefer the sweeter mixes. Again if you local pet shop does not carry it you can order it on line http://www.crazycorn.com

Kerry,
I have seen the Beak Appetit at my local pet store, but didn't pay too much attention to it. My question is; do you have to cook the whole tub at one time? I only have one budgie and I'm sure a lot would go to waste.
Thanks...Linda

Thanks Kerry, I will try those. I'm wondering... they have gone through a whole big apple in one day and barely touched their seeds. Do they know when enough is enough and stop eating the apple? I'm concerned because well, won't too much apple give them the runs and gas?

Hey Linda,
Yes you do microwave the entire tub. What you could do is get an ice cub tray from the Dollar Store and spoon individual servings into the tray and freeze them. :D

Hey Lilifield
When feeding watery foods there is a real possibility your bird(s) will have some watery poop. I would cut back just a bit on the apple and start as you said with the broccoli. Crumble the head of the broccoli up if you also chop the apple up a bit. They will eat enough seed if they need it. It is better that they are eating less of it. Their diet should really consist of fresh fruit, veggies, pellets with seed only making up 30% of the diet. :budgie:
