My bird going to die? One of my female birds for the 3rd time over the last year has attacked and put gashes into one of our other male. Last night I had to take my little guy out and put him into alittle cage to heal. He has bloddy gashes all over the face and can see where she dug her beak/ holes on the side of the face, next to the eye. He is in a corner of the cage most of the day, or sitting on the perch to the food. I dont see any seeds on the bottom of the cage. So probably not eating, poop is runny and I SEE CLEAR LIQUID COMING OUT OF ONE NOSE HOLE OF THE CERE. I do not have no extra money to take him to vet at all and dont want to promise no one I will pay them back when I know I cant. I just want to know if anyone else out there has seen this happend and the bird recovers in time. This will be so heart breaking. Our green male is our 1st and most loved one. My son's birthday gift from grandma. Any helpful hints for in home care I can do or make up from scratch would be great to know. Thanks Shannon any advice helps:( :budgie: :( ps I decided to give my other 4 away to different homes and my two zebra finches:(
Um.. I would call a vet ASAP at this point. Also, if this has happened before why did you put them back together? It's a good idea to LEAVE HIM ON HIS OWN if this happened three times before. Call an avian vet, give her the situation and make the soonest appointment. Other than that take out some of his toys so he doesn't use up much energy and put a towel or a pillow case or something soft at the bottom of his cage so that he could sit there or something if he'd like. Until your appointment if he doesn't seem to be getting much better you may want to put his in a large box or something with a towel or a pillow case at the bottom, and make sure he's warm and has plenty of food, clean water and air. Also put in some millet.

You need to go to a vet ASAP.
Skye gave you some good advice. You should follow it.

If you dont have the money borrow it of someone understanding, you will be able to pay it back one day im sure, please take your baby to the vet xox
Oh, also, to take him to a vet for a consultation is free, to get medicine costs money but I'm sure your friends and family will be willing to pitch in for a critter =]

I too advise to take your sweety to a vet. I would be concerned about infection from having open wounds. Make sure you clean the cage thoroughly every day to prevent bacteria from getting in the wounds.
In the meantime, keep the little guy warm and don't put him back in with the others...probably ever given the history with the female.
Good luck with him. I hope he gets well sweety.

I know I've heard of something when if you can prove that you seriously cannot pay for a vet visit, or wouldn't beable to pay back in more than a month, I'm sure they will let you have a free visit for the bird's sake (I kno they do that with animal rescue for people who are unable to pay for care, but really loves and does all they can for the animal)
I don't know. I don't think there is any home remedies (sp?) for that, since you would need some medication to subside any infections that may develope.
I kow with Chico (when he had his foot injury), I brought him to 2 different vets (since the first one was HORRIBLE! They didn't even take him out to check on him, since they thought he was too "weak for movement") and I wasn't able to bring him to the second one for about a couple days after, no infections accured then, since I cleaned it out every day with some dabs of water. Maybe once he feels a little stronger you can try that until you are able to get him on some medications.

not to be a total jerk, but i know in OK it is uncommon for any vet to see anyone if they admit to not having money.... no vet here will see patients for free.
It's like the doctors office here, you pay to be seen. I know at my job the rule is if you do not say you cannot afford to pay for the office visit and get seen, you must pay for it at a later time in order to continue seeing the doctors here. we do accept carecredit, which many places don't.... but most places here will not do payment plans.
It's not always fair, and it's sad to have to turn someone away in need... but if we saw all patients for free, I could not be paid the little amount that I do.... I'm sorry, but I like to eat and to take care of my pets.....
There are some places, so you can call around... but there is little you can do at home other than what Skye said.
Now if they are critical, like a hit by car that is dying, we will quickly begin some treatment in order tos stabalize. we HAVE to stabalize all critical cases regardless of financial status; however, once somewhat stable, payment is required for all services... and if they are not able to pay, we can transfer back to owners or to another vet.... but they have to leave either held checks or some form of paymnent....
OH and please dont get mad at a vet if they cannot tell you what medications to give or the dosage if you have not been seen by that vet. The law requires a doctor-client/patient relationship to give medication and/or medication dosage, if they do give either/both w/o a relationship with the pateint, they can lose their license....it's not their fault.

Im so sorry to read this Shannon, How is he now? do you have a humane society near you at all, they will treat for free/donation costs.
http://www.hsus.org/ is the main website contact them to ask of a clinic near you, they should be able to provide you with the info you need, if they dont have a clinic in your area, they should know of any other organisation that can help you.

Hi Sharron, how is your little boy today? do you have any neosporin type cream? try putting a little on the wounds to keep infection out. And keep him warm. Do you have a heating pad? if not, use hot water bottles, or a desk lamp.
I hope hes ok today :(

My little guy, end up dying this morning. There would of been nothing I could of done. The damage was to much as soon as the other birds attacked him. It was a matter of time when he was going to die. I did everything I could, but was not enough. He was the 1st bird and the best hand tamed love able pet we had evry had. Makes me wish I never got others birds for him to be around. I should of just stuck with him. So I feel like alot was my fault. Here is a pctures of TWEETY BIRD! click onto http:// link below to view pictures,

Its funny how I just got away from my abusive husband, Because the bird that did this to tweety bird was our rare keet sky! They use to be mates till I got more birds and Tweety bird found another mate, than that is when the rare sky bird started going after tweety and hooking him with her beak. Here is a picture of sky and tweety when it was just them too.

It is like tweety bird was being abused from his mate also. So I decided to hand off my 4 parakeets/ budgies to anther home that has a huge avairy that they can fly around in anytime. I am going to start new again with just one budgie and have the same love I once had with Tweety bird. I am going to have to wait till my kids and I get suttled in our new house this spring. I cant wait, I will be able to show you guys pictures of the new future bird.:budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie: :budgie::budgie:
