Kaytee isn't a good brand to feed birds, it contains the preservative ethoxyquin which can be harmful.
Look for a seed brand that has a good variety of seeds, not just a few different types. :)
I use:
Vita-Vittles (LM Animal Farms) Parakeet Diet
Harrison's Pellets (adult, fine, organic)
Then they get fresh veggies everyday, as well as occasional grains, egg food and scraps. :)

You can occasionally let them pick at your cereal, just make sure it's not the chocolate kind. ;)
Bread is good for a treat, just try and feed wholewheat.
For grains I feed, wholewheat bread and pasta every now and then. I've heard they also like plain rice.

Yup, you can! I like it because it contains a wide variety of seeds, and even some pellets mixed in. :)

I'm sure there are also good brands in your shop. I've heard Pretty Bird is a good brand of seed too. :)

i use roudybush pellets, they are the best ones i've found in the US. they cost a bit more, but heck their worth it! lol
for seeds i used to buy in bulk, but then had the mold scare, and lost 3 birds, so now i buy the bags from petco or where ever, it costs a load more with 28 budgies, but at least i am about 99% sure the seeds are fresh. the seeds are kaytee fortidiet, with egg food in it. when you read the ingredients their is still preservatives, and other stuff, but they all seem to.
I was getting organic, but with the pellets costing so much and those seeds, it was getting just way to much for an aviary full! with a few birds though, organic would be the way to go.

yesterday I went out and bought a bag of LM parakeet diet seen below, it seems to have more grains and seeds my birds enjoy. I also use Roudybush pellets, give them veggies and whole grain bread once in a while.

Hm, so Kaytee is bad? My parents dont find it very amusing ordering seed online so its a store-only thing. Whats better that is sold in stores?

Depends where you go, I buy all mine from stores - LM, Harriosn's, Zupreem.
It all depends on the individual stock in the stores. Just look for seeds with a wide variety.
Kaytee isn't necessarily "bad", some people continue to feed it to their birds with no issues. :)

Hi! gang, I was looking to change my food brand because I had read the post Pellets and budgies. It has a list of brands and the additives that each one has in it. Kaytee pellets have ethxyquin, artificial color, salt, and BHT or BHA. but some of the others have additives too. Tha'ts why I was asking for advice. So Kaytee seed mix is OK? I want to feed some pellets, with the seeds, but pick one with the least chemicals. Thanks again for any advice Tina Marie:budgie:
