Emmah me new budgie, ive had her for about one and a half weeks to two weeks now. Anyways she accepts millet quite gratefully from my hand. But she wont let me touch her! Argg. I love talking to her though its fun, ill call out to her and she twitter back :D Also her cere is now turned all pink :) No more blue and white. So does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her to accept my hand?

Start out using a perch and slowly get your finger closer and closer until you dont need a perch .....as you know it will take some time:)

:) if she takes millet from youre hand ,reduce it to a few inches instead of a long piece, you can spread youre fingers out & still hold the millet eventually she should hop on to youre finger, keep youre hand still, dont worry about touching her at this stage, wait untill shes a little more confident.Good luck keep us updated.

Well ive already gotten past the stage of giving her long sticks of millet. I just stick one seed betweed my thumb and forefinger. Shes getting quite used to this. After I give her a few peices I try to touch her lol. Not picking up, just petting. She doent like it at all.

This is my theory. "I can touch you, but you cant touch me." haaha

Don't try to pet her. As a general rule budgies are very different to their larger parrot relatives in that they don't make cuddley pets. Blinkie is super tame and playful but you can pet him. It's just not natural for budgies to enjoy this (though some will learn, often handreared ones). I would suggest trying to teach him (if the cere has changed to all pink with no sign of white or blue you have a male) to step up on your finger. :)

Aww :( I thought pink was for females. This sexing is diffcult lol. Anyways around the nostrils its a pale pink/white colour. Now I have to think of a new name :( So im just wondering...how do you play with a budgie?

When i play with Blinkie i talk to him and kiss his beak. You can get little lattice balls with bells inside which you can teach them to throw around. If you wear jewellry (necklace, braclet, watch) your budgie will probably nibble at those too. :D

If you can get a photo of your budgie i can tell you for sure if it's male or female. :)
