I was playing with Emily here a few minutes ago when she got real close to my ear. I could hear her breathing and it sounded a bit raspy. I'm reallyreallyreally worried about this because I've never heard her breath like this before. I'm thinking about calling Joe later and asking him if we can go to an avian vet Sunday. My parents JUST left for Shippensburg and won't be home until tomorrow evening. Should this be something that I need to go to a vet immediately or will it be OK to wait until Sunday?

Oh. And I wasn't sure if this was suppose to go under this forum or under the budgie health forum?

I think it's best to take Emily to the vet asap you wouldn't want the problem to escalate.

if its a respretory infection, she will need to be on antibiotics quickly. i know a few members here have had this, so they can advise better than me on it. Can you call your vet in the meantime?

Take her to a vet as soon as you can.

I could call my vet, but I honestly don't think it'll do me any good. The vet center that's closest to me doesn't treat pet birds. And the closest avian vet I have is like. 2 hours away from my house. I think my friend (Lace) knows of one that's closer but she got a new number and I can't remember it. At the moment I'm calling a bunch of people who may know her number. Plus, if I would get a hold of a vet, I wouldn't have any way of getting her there. My parents aren't home and my Grandma isn't allowed to drive (surgery rules). If I did find one close to home, I may be able to get Joe to take me. Though, I really doubt he'll do it since he has a friend over at his house tonight. =[[[[[[[[[[[

I'm just thinking if you called the avian vet, and you explained your situation, they could advise on what to do until you can get there???

I wish you luck. I wish avian vets were a bit more common so there'd be more and closer. :)

I dont have an avain vet near me either but a normal vets will see to birds. Please take your sweetie to a vet. My Skyla had an Respiratory infection and she got antibiotics, I am sure it has cleared up but will know for sure on Monday when I take her again for her 3 week check up. This is really important that your budgies sees a vet.

Ok. I just called the local vet, explained my situation, and they said that they don't treat birds. AT ALL. I did get the number of another vet center that does treat birds though and it's only about an hour from my house. I called the number and guess what?? THEY'RE CLOSED ALREADY. That vet center doesn't open until 8 tomorrow morning though and I'm like a wreak right now. I ended up getting hold of Lace and she couldn't find the paper with her vet's number on it at the time. Hopefully she does find it though. But first thing tomorrow morning I will call up to the vet center and try to get some advice on what I can do. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get up there tomorrow evening depending on when my parents get home. If not, I am hoping that Joe will take me there Sunday. And if not, my parents had better. When I do take her up though, what kind of pricing do you think I'll be looking at?
