I am a new flock owner (maximum 2 weeks) and must say ... oh my .... they are quite the something...each their own piece of something....

Here is Avro ... the best flyer in the cage ... mid air stop and turns ... .... he is over 4yrs old and is rough and scruffy looking (due to mites ...being treated ... :D ). He is not friendly in the slightest and has quite the tenacious bite to him. But I adore him regardless.

This sweetheart is Patches so named for that patch on the back of his head. I suspect he is mate to No-Na-Me. He is relatively quiet and prefers to babble over squawk. He is the laid back type rarely gets ruffled. He is between 2-3yrs, but no older.

Meet Maverick he too is a male that is 2-3years old. He is curious, likes to play with toys and loves hanging out with Pip'n'Squeak and or Patches.

This sweetie is No-Na-Me ... a nice way of calling her no name...giggles. She is over 4ys and the largest in the cage. She is quieter and she too has mites (being treated too). She likes to hang out on the swings with hawkeye.

This eye grabber albino is Hawkeye. He is named hawkeye after the doctor on MASH. He is nothing at all like what a budgie should be. He is quiet and not big on flying or jumping or moving around. He has a look to him that screams intelligence.

This is Sherlock, the baby of the group. He is abt 18months old and prefers to spend time alone - with the exception to Patches and Maverick. He has his own little section on top area of cage. He is not aggressive ... but doesnt take any bs....lol.

Terrible Two are the last two budgies I have. They are identical and are collectively called Pip'n'Squeak or pipsqueak. They are the smallest ones in the cage and the loudest.

Thank you ... I am not sure if he is English or not ... he is one of the larger and older ones in the cage ... he doesnt have that poofed eyebrow/top of head heavy look I think English budgies have....:S . And he is definately a lazy butts!!:)

Thank you :) Actually, the blue sheet on the bottom is a bedsheet cut up to wrap around the bottom. It was a last minute add on...the cat  . He was so good with all the other animals that came through here ...sigh.

Thank you ... sorry to hear about squeak ... it sucks when we lose them ... little they may be, but they are just a huge part of my life.

Thank you ..... And I know it does look empty:mad: , I havent figured out what I want to do with it yet :S lol ... it doesnt help that they do not go down there ... ever!. They only used the top 1/3 of the cage. Even that landing spot (second wooden ledge) with the pink toy doesnt get used at all ... :p . Being on the floor is a huge no no apparently with my guys ... lol.

That is great idea, but I was referring more to the wire you used,
hardware cloth looks like this, http://www.darbywire.com/images/hardware.jpg

LMAO - can you tell I didnt build it .... I saw the word cloth .... oh my, how silly of me.

Yes I did actually and that link is actually exactly how it looks, came rolled and cost about 30bucks from Home Depot (needed a few to do the cage though). It was the most expensive part of the cage.

sorry about that:o

Hi saw your cage good job but just would like to let you know what I read awhile back.
We also build our birds cages and the very first cage we built was with coated hardware cloth. I read that the metal they use for hardware cloth is made with zinc which is toxic to birds so I found the material we use for our cages its called hardware net its a heavier black plastic looks like hardware cloth and comes in a roll the rolls I found are 3ft by 15 ft I only found it at our Menards store. The company that makes it is called Landware The above picture I hope shows it. You can cut it with a sissors There is the stuff that is real flimsy used to cover bushes and that is not the stuff I used. This is hard enough that the birds can't chew through it but is still plyable enough to bend a little.

I did directions on how to build my cages and here is a little piece about the hardware net
1 roll of plastic hardware net comes in 3ft by 15 ft it’s a harder plastic but is flexible. It has ½” squares and the stuff we got is black. We got it at Menards in Wisconsin It’s a lumber/hardware mega store. The cost of this was about $10
I found the internet site for the hardware net that I used to build our cages its www.landware.net then look up utility nets. If you have trouble finding it maybe you can e-mail them and ask who sells it in your area the one we bought has the upc code of 751397

We built 4 cages one of which has been remodeled 4 times now and I want to build another this spring when Menards gets the hardware net back in they are out of it right now.

I love the cages we built and so do the birds as they would rather spend most of the time in the cage than out of it. Its so funny we have a harder time getting them out then getting them back into the cage.

here is a link to my photobucket album if you would like to see more pictures of my cages
http://s45.photobucket.com/albums/f91/tuescher/

I know home depot did not have the hardware net in our city (live in WI) and the only place I found it was at Menards which is like a home depot type store.

I just saw your post.
Your birds are very lucky to have so many friends and a big cage.

How original to name your best flyer "Avro":p like the Canadian/British aircraft manufacturing company.

Congratulations!

I really likes your flock there friend. I wish I can get more birds but the current place I'm living in disallows that for some reason.
