Emily has been sitting in her food dish lately and I'm not really sure why. It's really weird though. She will sit there all day unless she wants to get a drink or if I get her out. I was thinking about getting her a happy hut thingy (is that what those things are called?) because I don't like her sitting in her food. What do you all think? Also. She's been whistling and then immediately hitting her beak against a perch or the bars of her cage. I've been trying to figure out why but I'm not coming to any conclusions. Any ideas as to why she's doing this?
Thanks! =]

My bird Marly sits in her food bowl, but only for eating.
Is she with the other birds at any time? if so, then I wouldn't reccomend getting a happy hut, since it will probably encourage her to lay eggs (and we don't want that happening)
I'm not sure what it may be though, sorry
*EDIT*I had to change breed, because I didn't mean that!

I don't really know why Emily might be sitting at her food dish. It might be out of boredom, keep an eye on her because some female Cockatiels lay eggs out of boredom. The way that you described her hitting her beak against the side of her cage and perch sounds like she might just be cleaning it, which I often find Emerson doing sometimes.

My first thought when I read your post is that it sounds like she is brooding or rather trying to. How you deal with it though, I don't have tiels so someone experienced will have to help you out.

Oh, ok. =]
She isn't in with any other birds though. In fact, she's in my room where you can't even hear the budgies. But she's by a window overlooking my yard where the wild birds gather. Maybe that's why?
As for the perch thing, she might be cleaning it, I don't know. My boyfriend even thought that maybe she was doing it because she wanted a new perch. And then hitting the sides of the cage because she wanted out. =/
Thanks everyone. =]

The wild birds outside can be tempting your poor tiel. Making her depressed to be so alone.

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. =[
But. If I moved her away from the window do you think it might help a little bit? This weekend I'm getting new curtains that are hopefully darker. The ones I have now are pretty transparent. And next weekend I'll be getting rid of my desk and dresser so that I can move her cage away from the window.
