I was wondering for all those that have tiels if they have a slight bald spot on their head by the base of the crest? I've noticed my Miss Daisy still has some pin feathers under her wings (looks uncomfortable) But I can't get a good enough look at the base of the crest to see if there are pin feathers there, if there are no pin feathers, then she definitely has a small bald spot wich scares me because I have read that it is due to inbreeding.

Someone posted a similar question on another site & this was the answer:

Ryann your Lutino's bald spot is hereditary and was the product of one or two Lutino adults having the bald spot already and then breeding them together. This is why some breeders do not breed two Lutinos together. To answer your question your Lutino's bald spot may not come back at all or it may come back slightly, this will depend on if both of your babies parents had the bald spot or just one parent,if it was just one it is possible that it could come in more than what is showing. I would like to know if you know how old your Lutino is and if you bought him from the petstore or a breeder. If you bought him from a breeder than we would know if both parents were lutino or not.If one parent was a Lutino and one was say a whiteface than I could tell you that your lutino may not be bald forever otherwise your baby may stay that way.
To answer your question though You need a clean spray bottle, one that has never had soap/pesticides or household cleaners in it add water to the spray bottle(warm but not hot) and add to this aloe vera but you need to dilute it a lot.Mix that in with the water and spray or rub this on to the Lutinos bald spot.

thanks BS that was really fast LOL, well I am hoping that it just hasn't grown in yet, as I said I can't get a good enough look to see if there are pin feathers there or not, she moves everytime.
She still has pin feathers under her wings and a little spot on the outter wind that has some pin feathers.

Is your tiel lutino? If yes then many lutinos have the bald spot. Most breeders won't breed from lutinos that have the bald spot or produce offspring with the bald spot but obviously not all, and being that it's so common in lutinos it would not be an easy thing to eliminate. It's also sometimes seen in young tiels. A good diet and time should mean the feathers will come in eventually (Bailee has a bald spot and is not lutino, it should grow in over time).

yes Bea she is a lutino, and she is only 11-12 weeks old.
I got her from a petstore (I wasn't going to) but this one just kept coming to me and looking at me like pick me up pick me up, it is a smaller pet store and not one of those Huge chain stores. The person working told me they get their tiels from this lady who only has 1 pair of tiels and that she handfed and raised them and really put a lot of her time in them.

That was evident from the start. She is super sweet, wants to be with us all the time and has no desire for her cage at all. She loves to try to chew on my glasses, she has given my daughters kisses and kissed my nose. She is just sooo super sweet, at the time I got her I was already talking to breeders but she stole my heart and I truly believe she was suppose to be the one for me. In fact after I agreed to get her and had them clip her wings, the Store clerk brought her out perched on his hand and said....she has absolutely no desire to fly away she just sat there and then came on my hand.

If she has a bald spot I can live with that, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of something serious. Thankyou all for the great information.

My Tiel has a slight bald spot behind his crest too. He is a white face grey tiel. From what I have seen from other tiels and at the pet shop they all have this slight bald spot there.

The bald spot is typically more of a cosmetic than a health issue. It was likely a genetic trait opassed down from tiel to tiel. I think it is evident in more mutations not just the Lutino.

Thankyou all, I feel a lot more relieved now! She is such a precious girl, I'd hate to think that something could of been wrong.
