2010 Secret Santa

The winter months are creeping up on us quickly. I have to admit, things have been so busy for me that I almost forgot about Secret Santa! But I remembered today while I was in class. Not quite sure what made me think of it, but anyway... :S

For the new members here, let me provide a description of our annual Secret Santa:

Participation is optional. If you do choose to participate, you will submit your information (listed below). Once everyone has had a chance to enter, you will be paired up with another member. The other person will not know who you are. You will then send this member a budgie-related gift. If they specify a particular gift, you should first try to get this. In return, someone else will send you a gift for your budgies. Again, you will not know who sends you the gift.

If this interests you, read on to learn more!

- Submissions will be accepted now through November 20 (Saturday). No submissions will be accepted after this deadline.

- You should receive your match by the end of November.

- Try to estimate shipping time so your package will arrive before the holidays.

- Only participate if you are willing (and able) to buy and ship a gift on time. If you sign up and don't ship a gift, you might be suspended from the forums.

- The gift price should be no more than $15-20, not including shipping costs.

- Remember that we have members throughout the world. Be sure to keep this in mind when purchasing a gift. International shipping costs can be more expensive than domestic shipping costs. We will try our best to match you to members relatively close to you, but this is not guaranteed. If you do not want to ship internationally, please specify this. If you don't mind shipping internationally, specify this too, as I'm sure we'll need some of you to do this.

You can ship to only places in Canada and even only in your own province ;) I always request that :o

Just think of what you'd do to keep your feathered babies safe then start multiplying by a million. I'd say your best bet is to just tell them that you'd like to participate, and explain it to them. Chances are they've done similar exchanges at work, so they may actually just let you! Now to go fill out the form.

What kind of wrapping paper could you use that would be safe for the birds to chew on if they wanted?

for wrapping paper i use unbleached paper and buy a pack of them cheap sponges, cut them into funny Christmas shapes, dip them into a vegetable dye and have fun!

I wouldn't mind joining in on this but I am afraid that I can't. Since I live in Sweden and most of you are all in either the USA or Canada, it is super expensive to ship things out of the country, even to other European countries.

I have things I have bought my kids who reside in the USA, still wrapped that I have not yet gotten around to ship out to them.

It would be nice though. Even though it's not for me, but for my budgie, it would have been nice to receive a x-mas present for once to open. It's been years since I have gotten one. At least I have Ben now, so I will get one this year!

As much as I spoil Paco, I am sure he will have TONS under the x-mas tree. I will wrap them and label some from mommy and daddy and others will be from Budgie Clause. hehehehe I LOVE to buy and wrap up presents.

I wonder if I can get him interested in paper, in shredding it by then, so he can open up his own presents. lol

That guideline was geared more toward what you put down as the gift you want. So when you sign up, don't ask for a gift that will cost $100. Of course, if you say you want some little toy or something that costs $5, and your SS buys you something worth $50, there's no rule against that. Clear as mud?

I was a bit silly and I wrote a kinda hard to read messy Dear Santa Budgie Clause, pretending Paco wrote it with his beak, and folded it up into one of those special folding notes we did when we were school kids. And when Ben came home I told him that Paco worked hard in writing with his beak to write a x-mas wish list for Budgie Clause, and we needed to deliver it to Santa. hehehehe

Ben didn't find it to be as cute and funny as I thought it would be but I thought it was very cute. lol At least Ben read it, and tonight he granted his most wanted wish....a new budgie to be his buddy. hehehe

1. You shouldn't put your username on your package. As other people already mentioned, it should remain a secret until after the holidays. Of course, there are some people whose names would give away their usernames, and even a couple people who included their username in their address! :eek:

2. The person you send a gift to isn't necessarily the person sending you a gift. However, there are some instances where this is the case. (I can say for you personally this isn't the case. I won't say who's sending you a gift though. ;))

I meant when I sent everyone their match's information (who they're sending a gift to), the address in the PM included a username, or sometimes the person's real name was similar to their username.

You don't have to disguise your name when you send your package. I mean, you can if you want to. But it's not necessary. :)

Sorry to ask a question that's possibly already asked. I'm not 100% on how this works, i've never done a secret santa before, let alone a TB one...When we send out our gift, do you tell the recipient who's sending it. Or is That revealed on TB later...or not at all? I'm not sure...again sorry if this has been answered.

Mally, I think it is suppose to stay a secret. That way your recipient is kept guessing who his/her secret santa is! :)

You can spend as much as you want. That guideline is place mostly so people don't ask for very expensive gifts. But if you want to buy an expensive gift, that's on you. :P

Exactly, don't feel bad, you get whatever you can....we will all be grateful for whatever our lovely birds are sent!!!! It's the thought that counts and to know that other people are buying our birds pressies is real lovely. :)
