I feed them Ecotrition Seed, Harrisons pellets, variety of fresh veggies, soak mix, an occasional serving of fruit and rarely any millet.
I placed in a honeybar for Shiloh and Grace but they didn't like the taste, so I broke it up and placed the other half into Christmas's and Dallas's cage and they loved it. :)

I'm guessing Kaytee seeds? Their Fiesta seed are rated to be very good. They have a wide variety in their seeds such as bits of veggies, some pellets, grains, millet. But of course, the budgies only pick out what they like and leave the rest
Avoid the Kaytee pellets, they have ethoxyquin in almost all kinds :(
I only give millet as a reward after training when they're first brought home. Then, they don't see it until it's a big holiday or their birthday. :) I prefer to give fruits a couple of times a week.

Alicia, your birds should have fruit and veggies everyday or almost everyday. You shouldnt have to wait till trusted.

oh and i gave my budgies hagen stuff... but regret giving them that now when i look back on it. I also gave them fruit and veggies almsot everyday and millet was always in there cage. except in feb. when im getting some budgies im gunna chnage things alot.. im gunna give em the same stuff i give to my tiels. Either Roudybush or Lafebers pellets, and Abba Seeds and sometimes kaytee or sun seed stuff. and Millet occasionally plus fruits and veggies every day.

ya i usually feed my tiels abba, its jus seed... no sun flower or all the other stuf in it. I was told by a bird obsessed person to avoid stuff that has alot of sunflower seeds in it because birds can get obsessed with them. and of course pellets.. and fruit an veggies in the evening.

Sunflower seeds are really fattening and Cockatiels LOVE them. Cockatiels can become obese easily, so you need to make sure they're eating healthy and staying in shape.

They can have some celery, but it almost has no nutritional value to it its mostly just water.

Its a foriegn object in there cage, your going to get that reaction until they feel that its not going to hurt them. You can try cutting up a piece of broccoli and putting it in a cup in their cage.

I give Pearl seeds, and alternate millet and honey treat when she has been good when she's out of her cage being trained.
I have tried to give her fruits and veggies but she's not used to it yet. I've heard that carrots are supposed to be ground up before you give them; is that true?
I've tried banana also but she doesn't show interest at all.
Also, do you put the fruits/veggies in the same bowl in the cage where you put seeds, or do you need a separate one?
I'll keep working with her. :D

Mine used to eat Trill seeds, any other brand I've tried he denied to eat! Also, during his ilness days, he liked to eat rubbed apple (he always was scared of apple, even of a little piece). I am so sad I hadn't discovered this excellent forum earlier, I could make his life even better :(

Some budgies like their carrots grated or mashed or just cut up into sticks. It depends on them really. :)
I like to keep my veggies and fruits seperate since I don't feed them both together, but you can put both in the same plate. If you are converting them to eating veggies, then spinkling seed over them may help you. Leaving the veggies bowl and a bunch of seeds together in the cage seperately, may not. :o

eep! I never knew that about Kaytee seeds! As soon as this bad is gone I'm gonna get a different brand.
Forgot to add I give them veggies daily and fruits evey now and then. They also get millet spray as a treat to get them to trust me, about every other day. I
ll cut down on it when I get them tamed though.
I'll also have to tell my parents when pet food shopping that they don't get Kaytee brand food.

I am suprized to see (not in a good way either) that according to the pole right after seeds budgies are getting millet spray! Do u eat ice cream every night or the same amount as you eat food? It's A TREAT! Not something that should be given more than veggies, pellet and fruits! HMMMM....
