We got a new Cockatiel today! His owners called him "pretty boy" and never handled him so we'll be changing his name soon giving him a fresh new start.
He was purchased from the bird shop I worked at and he is 1 year old. Never been in contact with any other birds whatsoever and never taken outside because he was never handled. So he was safe to introduce to Zeus & Hera.
We believe he's a boy because of the way he looks but we aren't 100% sure, we don't know the sex of any of our other Tiels either so we're getting some DNA tests done hopefully within the week if not next week.
No name has been chosen yet but it for sure will be the name of another Greek God. I'm very into history :D. He isn't tame AT ALL, but he will step up onto a stick so we will be working on him.
Well here he is! He is the grey with the yellow face and red cheeks. Zeus is all black/dark grey and Hera is the beautiful Cinnamon Pied Pearl. In the last picture, he's in the back.

OMG, He has to be the cutest thing I have ever saw. :D
I could see his little back in the last pic. :p
All I have to say is that they are all gorgeous.
Zeus to me is very intersting because she is very dark then normal.
How did Hera and Zues react to him?

Anna- He was only visiting but he seems to have made good friends with the both of them... Especially Zeus lol. Gets me wondering... I think Zeus might be a girl.
I just renamed him from Pretty Boy to Hades since he's not very nice. So Hades thinks Zeus is sexy... Maybe we should change Zeus's name to Persephone? :D hahaha. Well I won't make any name changes to Zeus & Hera until we find out what they are.
They don't have tails because they're going through their moult. They're both only 8 months old.
The only one with a tail is Hades and that's because he's 1 year old.
I am so angry that these people smoked around this bird, he was SO FILTHY, the filthiest bird I've ever met. He just took a bath. He smelled like Black n Milds, a kind of cigar. He let me preen him and pet him though and after the bath he allowed me carry him, on a towel to the cage and pet his back.

Even if they smoked they shouldn't have been so close to him that HE smelled like it!!!!!!!! my god! Did they EVER bathe him??? like ever>? YUCK! I thought that's why the other's tails may be like that... :p

Thats great that such an untame bird would be so accepting to take a bath for you. he's off to a good start!

I was hoping so... But he attacked Zeus. Then he bit Hera and jumped out at me and was very angry. I spoke with my breeder friend who says she wants him and she'd keep him in the house with her. So I told her we'd wait it out a while, I don't want to keep him here, have him situated and then suddenly move him out. He might be better off with her, I'm going to take him over there for a visit and see if he's happier with her.
We will see, if he doesn't seem like he likes her, we'll definitely keep him because I know I can work with him. He's HUGE by the way, the pictures don't show it but he's twice the size of Hera and poor Zeus is not too big lol. Zeus fits in my hand and he fits in a mug still...

Well, he put Hera in bird ICU last night and broke Zeus's toe...
He is in a cage by himself in another room and all he is doing is screaming as if some wild beast wants to eat him. He is definitely leaving soon.

That's what you get when you rescue a bird who doesn't like birds or people. The broken toe isn't bothering Zeus and Hera is fine today, after she spent an entire night in our ICU area. She had some bruised feet and couldn't walk last night.
Our ICU is a large plastic GLAD container, holes along the top of the cover, lots of soft tissue and paper towel and a disposable hand warmer that lasts 6 hours. She's fine now.

glad their ok today (you need ear plugs!)
its a good lesson for all the members why its not good to put birds that are not friendly together, together. Things can happens so quickly, even with friends, as you know liz with rain.
Im so sorry though, i hope the poor guy finds a loving home!

The only reason I immediately put them together is because I know the bird. I was there when he was born and I helped handfeed him. The lady LIED to us and told us that she handled the bird every day. She never handled the bird, not for an entire year and the bird became wild. If only we would have known... :(
We're going to go ahead and give him to one of our breeder friends. Either he will get a mate or live in an aviary.

Awww. I commend you for giving it a shot, and also for knowing that he/she just wasn't going to fit in with all
your current companions. And you found a person who is going to devote their time to it and finally give it the life it deserves.
Too bad there aren't more responsible people out there like you, then we wouldn't have all these unwanted birds to begin with.
