I just got my little guys on September 2, 2010. So we are still working on taming.
This post is a bit long lol I had alot to say today :)
Yay...
They like me they really like me :p
I have been sitting and chatting with them a ton every day since I brought them home. They even chirp back at me alittle (mostly Mojo). They seem very calm and relaxed with me near their cage or even if I just place my hand right in the cage (not near them) they are ok with it.
This morning I get up and right away I go and tell them good morning and they start being all chirpy and cute and happy to see me!!!
I am loving getting to know each of their little personalities too. Mojo is the chatty one. He will talk to me and calls to me even. He tries to be BFF with Icarus, not that it is going too well. He is a bit more timid of my hand but seems like he will be such a sweetie.
Icarus is more dominant. He isn't attacking Mojo but isn't very friendly to him either. He will chase him off the swing or the perch when Mojo tries to snuggle up lol. But he is more playful around the cage and seems to have no issues with my hands lol Much braver.
So it gave me the courage to start millet training. Also the fact that I put alittle sprig in there next to the perch and they picked it clean so fast omg. I also have some millet in their cage in alittle millet holder perch thing- I saw Icarus munch once on it and since then they don't touch it bleh lol Clipped on the side of the cage though they like.
So anyways I slowly put my hand in the cage holding the millet and put it fairly close to Mojo. He goes nuts not even a moment of hesitation and starts munching away. I move my hand closer and closer and he will stop for a second then start eating again. But I moved alittle too much with my thumb and spooked him away- oops.
But then Icarus comes over and just munches away like there is no tomorrow. He destroys it lol Little millet fiend! He doesn't touch my hand but gets right up next to it. Eating right next to my fingers. and with how he was eating I thought he might munch them too lol
I let them go at it until they had enough and moved away. The entire time I spoke to them gently.
But my poor babies are molting. From what I have read since they are kindof young this might be their first molt? They are losing feathers all over and have the little pin feathers all around their heads aww :( They preen a bunch (but not each other- though Mojo has tried to lol) I read spraying them helps. So I sprayed them alittle and omg did they love that! Acted so cute and happy. So I hope that helps some.
Ok so just now as I was typing this Mojo starts calling out so I go over there and they are being cute again. I decide to give them some millet once more. Though I realize that giving them it everytime they call me is probably gonna spoil them and might be teaching them naughty habits hmm lol
But anyways I put my hand back in with the millet. Again right away Icarus comes running over and munches away. Mojo comes over alittle more timid not wanting to get as close and yet trying to get around Icarus's butt in the way lol. Icarus yells at him and he goes back and waits for Icarus to finish.
Icarus ate a bunch I didn't think he would stop lol. Again right up next to my fingers without touching me.
While Icarus is munching away Mojo goes and gets a drink yay! I made a post earlier about never seeing them drink. So that is great.
Then when Icarus is done Mojo comes and eats a bunch on the far end away from me. He ate a ton but then I had to move my hand and he went away.
It is tough holding my hand in there like that for long wow lol Plus patience is so hard. I get excited like a little kid and have to be like no don't rush it. If you do it might just be like taking 5 steps backwards bleh. Go slow let them be at ease.
Idk how molting is gonna play a role in the training. I know they can get grumpy and stuff from what I read (birdy pms? lol) I wonder if I should go even slower until it is over hmm
