If you wanted to breed your budgies, what do you need to get/know beforehand?
Just wondering ^^

R-E-A-D every book you can get your hands on. The library usually has books on Budgie management and breeding. There is a lot of info to know and it would take a long time for anyone to write it all down..... :-) Suggestion: Browse through the BREEDING section of this site and you'll get a good start. If you have any specific questions you think I might be able to help with, don't hesitate to write me. Hope I can help. Good luck.

He's rite there is ALOT to learn about breeding and babie budgies...search here and the web and you should get some general knowledge of breeding there...if I can be of any help just post I will reply:)
Well I have nothing better to do so...il get started. What if you dont have a book?ok....Do you have a true pair thats the first thing. They have to be male and female of 1 year or older. If they touch bills preen each other or,if the male feeds the female and makes courtship displays they will sooner or later get ready to mate. When you see this you have to get ready to condition them for breeding. This meens you have to supply them with CUTTLEBONE,VITAMINS/MINERALS ,FRUIT AND VEGETABLES and EGG FOOD,if you cannot buy "eggfood" you can just boil a "boiled egg" and mash it up, but be sure to remove it if it is not aten within a few hours because eggs spoil very fast.Make sure to supply them with all these items daily before breeding and during. It is very important!!!Another thing that they will not breed without is light, temperature, and hummidity levels. They must have 13 hours of natural light a day if you can noy get this buy an ultraviolet light and keep it on for - 13 hours.Thier temperature should be kept at 72 degrees and hummidity at 60% or else, the eggs will dry out and the embryos will die. Then you need to go shopping for a nest box or you could make one your self this box should be made of wood or metal it must have a concave bottom to keep the eggs under the hen.It should also be 10 inches by 9 inches by 6 inches and should also open up for easy acess.Do not worry if your birds are scared of the box at first and do not pay attention to it.The female will find it and start spending more and more time inside the box.If you have done all I have said mating should take place and the eggs should follow 8 weeks later. You will know when the eggs are coming because the female willstart to have larger and more runnier droppings than ussual. She will start sitting on the eggs right after the first one is laid. There could be anywhere from 1-8 whie eggs. The hen will be stressed so do not bother her to much she will work hard to hatch the eggs. The male will feed the hen until the eggs hatch the female rarely leave the box.The male still continues his job until the babies leave the nest, and then they are thought to fly by both parents and to eat on thier own,not all eggs will be fertile."Don't count your eggs before they hatch"I go by this. The chicks grow very fast the babies are born with no feathers just naked and thier eyes are closed after a week there eyes open and they begin to grow pin feathers.By 2 weeks all the down feathers have grown in,17 dyas later the young budgie reaches the adult wieght of 1 onunce and only 28 days old the bird has grown tail and wing feathers and flys away from the nest.Could you imagine leaving home when you were 28 days old?Fast really fast growing.Well this should give you a little information about an introduction to breeding you should still invest in a book.Dont give up!It takes a little time to get them to start but after they never stop.My female was 4 years old when she died and I raised 21 babies off her out of 9 clutches so just try it its really fun and an enjoying experience!good luck!:) :) :) :) :) :)
