I spent the night at a friend's house and the next day my dad called me saying she was dead...we're not sure what killed her but I believe it was a combination of extreme temperature changes and smoke. You see, while I was gone she started freaking out in her cage, so my dad got her and took her downstairs with him (like he had done before, to say - watch hockey). She loved my dad, and he loved her (more than he was willing to admit). He had a fire going and she went exploring and ended up sitting on a log on the hearth in front of the fireplace. One he hadn't put in yet, of course. Going from a room upstairs that is usually fairly cool when it's snowing outside and there's a fire going downstairs where the thermometer is down to a fire isn't good. What's worse is that he called me saying she was running around on the log very quickly and what he should do. I told him to take her back upstairs. He did then went to sleep. When he woke up a little bit later he came to check on her and...she was laying on her side in her cage. When I got home it was rather smokey in the house. Either way, she's gone. My dad was very torn up and crying to me. I haven't shead a tear but that's just the way I am. It is sad, she wasn't ever able to fly when she was with me....she was probably only a month away from her feathers growing back in. Hopefully she's flying now!

R.I.P Serenity!

Oh my, I'm so sorry about Serenity. That is terrible to know that there was nothing wrong with her before you left, and now she is gone.

You are probably correct about the smoke. That may be why she was pacing very quickly. (Because she couldn't handle the smoke.) I would think that unless there was a drastic change in temperature, she wouldn't have been affected by that. At any rate, unless a person is knowledgable on Budgie care, they don't understand the dangers that could take our little friend's lives. Your Dad probably didn't even know that so much smoke could affect Serenity. It is obvious that he is very sorry, though.

Thanks for sharing with us about Serenity, so that we could be here to support you.

RIP, Sereninty.

Thanks. I'm tempting the idea of getting another budgie, maybe 2....if I do I'm going to be sure to have my dad learn more about them....still debating.
