Today was Tanti’s first day of clicker training! I figured I need some training in it myself so Tanti the most tamed of my lil’ flock was the lucky bird!

She was easily distracted first off, however after a short break I got her attention with tasty millet!

She is starting with target training; this is done in my room on the cage where she is most comfortable, perhaps a few distractions...
She was a good girl and touched the target 10+ times, after some time she lost interest so I ended the session with some music which they enjoy singing/ preening too.

And I managed to coax Mango out too, shy little boy! He touched the target twice and decided to fall asleep whilst I was with Tanti.

I can see this is going to be very tricky and also very fun.
I’ll keep you all updated!

Excellent progress, congratulations!
One thing to consider: It is best to stop before they lose interest. So I stop after they touch the target stick 3 times and then end it with a large reward.
Once they get more interested, you can train longer. But our budgies have small brains...:p
Keep up the good work!

I did have a rough time frame, but I think limiting it to a number would work better thanks :)
She was cheeky too once she finished the millet she would bite the stick again:rolleyes:

That is so funny. My birds tried to hold on to the millet stick with their feet. I had to offer it from the top, so they could not do that. :p

Your budgie learned really fast.
You are doing great!!

Good job.

I've been attempting some clicker training recently. I've gotten distracted with buying my first cockatiel, but I'll probably get back to it shortly and work even harder.

Good luck with training! I'm sure it will go well!

Good luck with your training too, I'm so happy with her and especially Mango!

Today, was an earlier one, I just limited it to five times to touch the target, She was perfect and as I thought at the 4th time she started to get bored.
What would I start on once the target training is pretty constant?

Once she follows the target stick, you can have lots of fun.
Try to get her to follow the stick on to your hand, your arm, your shoulder.
You can get her to step on to objects, or under a tunnel.
I had Tweety step on a miniature skateboard...and of course, the podium for the Olympics.:p
