Spiders ?

you know when youre on the homepage & it tells you what members are online & how many guests ,can someone please tell me what spiders are ??

I believe they are search engines gathering kewwords and stuff so that Talk Budgies comes up when certain words are typed into the search on sites like msn, google, yahoo, etc. :) Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
