Well I just found this.... so since I have started my training already I will put it up to date and then fill in her progress one day at a time from here :). I am liking this journal idea.
When I first got Shania the whole ride home (still in the box that we got her in) I spoke to her so she would know my voice. I took her out of her box and then held her on my finger and sang to her, calmed her down a little. I then put her to her new cage/home, and let her be. I would talk to her anytime that I walked by her cage(which is often her cage is right next to the entry way from the living room to my master, or by the arcadia door that I go to several times a day to let my dog in and out from the potty. That went on for a month.
Figuring that is a good amount of time to be settled in and used to us walking by, I went on to the next phase of introducing myself. I would give her millet through the bars twice a day for about thirty minutes(no she didn't always eat from me that is just how long I sat there). She eventually came to the place of the cage that I sat to give her, her millet for about three days consistently (no that is not the total amount that I did this portion, I did this for about two weeks, just the last three days where she came and ate the whole time I was there). I then moved to the millet in my hand into the cage and will leave it there for the same amount of time. There are days where she will come right to me (even hop on my hand and walk up my arm and out of the cage), but more than most there are the days where I just sit with millet untouched in my hand. So that is where I am at, and tomorrow night I will repost what happened for that day. :) Looking forward to this

Thursday May 6, 2010:
10:30 A.M - I went to Shania's cage and sat there for a while talking to her(first time that she has not ran all the way to the other side of her cage like she normally does when I come to her cage) She did move away slightly from the opening, but not too far. :) Yay!
After talking to her for a little while I grabbed some parsley(figured I would try this today since she seemed to LOVE it yesterday) and put my hand slowly in her cage. Sat there for a little while like that she came a little closer, close enough to stretch her neck out and nibble on some parsley. So I sat there like that for the rest of the time talking to her and to the kids around me. Until she cut our session early by continuing to fall asleep while I was there.

So last night unfortunately the 2nd attempt of the day was put on a hold. I was out and about doing the grocery shopping and such. :-\ Hope that doesn't set me back. I guess I will find out in about an hour.

I went in for my 10:30 training, I usually have to take the millet in and slowly go to where she in the cage and then wait for her to eat it. TODAY, I was slowly going towards her... AND SHE CAME TO ME INSTEAD :)!!!!!!
She was just fine I was even able to move my finger around while she was eating, cautioned but still eating. UGH!!!!! Until my two year old (who knows when mommy is with the bird, you should stay away from mommy and quiet) came up to me YELLING very angrily, because she couldn't find some toy.
Shania then ran as far away from me as possible, I stayed there with my hand in the same spot talking gently to her, with no avail. just stayed there, so now I think I am back to square one with her after that break through. :( I was sooooo excited when she came to me instead of me going to her.
So later today it will be back to square one and hopefully not another two weeks before she will come to me again. However, if it is, then it is and I will have to deal with it huh?

Today is Sunday, yesterday I was out all day to get my newest addition. So unfortunately that means that I did not get to bond with her today. I did talk to her before and after I left for a while though. Today was Mother's day and we spent the day at a resort(so sunburnt now :-( ). So again just the talk. Tomorrow back to training Shania and keeping up on the newest addition, Sunnie.

Hey no probs keep trying ok, patience is the main thing in bonding with your budgie. You are lucky that your budgie attempted to eat from your hand so soon, some budgies take up to a month or so to eat from your hand!! All the best!!
