My birds are getting set to my home now. Yesterday I started feeding my birds by putting my hands inside the cage. Tinku used to eat before also but mamalu(jassi renamed) wasn't eating, but yesterday it saw tinku eating from my hands and it also came to eat. I was so happy to see both my babies eating from my hand. Over that mamalu came and sat over my hand. I am so happy, even today morning and afternoon I fed them from my hand and they ate happily. But they eat only seeds and coriander leaves. They hardly eat the sprout which I have kept. :budgie:

Today also I fed my birds, but still Mamalu doesn start eating untill Tinku eats , he may be still scared. He doesn even eat the green leaves how much ever I try but tinku eats it. I am not sure whats the problem, he seems less active then tinku. But he looks fine to me, its 4 days since I bought him to our house but still most of the times he sits idle than to keep playing.

He's still getting settled in - so I wouldn't push him into liking you,
he will come around,
and with the influence of the other birds,
it will happen sooner!
Patience is key,
good-luck!

Hey thanks for the reply. I hope he gets closer to me soon. I would love to see him hang around my hands. One more prob is I have hardly seen him drinking water, he eats only dry seeds, won't it be a prob for him in degestion? I am really worried, I tried feeding him greenies but he never tries them.

Have you ever heard the expression, "you drink like a bird"?
Well - birds don't drink a whole heck of alot.. they are probably drinking while you are looking away
I thought my little girl didn't drink - until I saw her "sip" her water
She took one sip and she was done,
eating dry seeds are fine for the budgies, they hull thier seeds
Don't give up on the veggies - try wetting them down,
budgies like wet things it seems..
It will get them interested,
and budgies like sweet smelling things,
try the top of celery ( the leaf )
Or if they grow where you live, dandelions!
Don't give up and keep trying,
he will be hanging around you in no time!

What I was did was mixed the millet dry seeds with water and fed them, its fine I hope, because some water would go along with the seeds na...

That's okay,
it's not needed,
but if you do choose to do that,
I'd remove the seeds every four hours..

Do the birds have to be fed 24 hours or jus like we do can we keep the seeds 4 times a day? BTW today morning also I fed my birds, initially they hesitated to come but later they came and ate. I tried to feed them boiled rice along with the seeds but they din even eat one by mistake..

No - keep the seed in the cage while they are awake,
and when they go to sleep take it out and wash it ect,
and then replace the food dish with fresh seed the next day
Hahaha - and about the rice,
they will pick around the food they don't want,
and eat what they do want.
My birds pick around thier pellets..

Ya I was shocked to see my birds so clever, one of them even chewed the seeds that were stuck to the rice grain and threw back the rice ha ha.. Very clever birds huh!!

Today I tried feeding my birds, they eat when hand fed, but I have kept the seeds dish on the cage floor, but as my cage is a longer one, I have never seen them going down and eating the seeds. I am worried if they will get weakness..

Don't worry, they will be fine, they will go down there when they are hungry, but budgies prefer to stay up high, (wild budgies are easy picks in the wild when down low. Even if its a captivitive budgie, the bird will still be taught this from its parents) so its most likely you won't see them do it-they are very sneaky. :)

I hope they eat when I am not there. Because I have seen my bird eating preening and singing while it was in the pet shop, but here it is hardly so active, thats why I am worried. Yesterday I kept a small banana piece with millet seeds as toppings, so that they eat the banana along with the seeds, I guess they ate a little banana each.

Yipppppeee!!! Today my budgies ate tomato for first time from my hand! I am so damn happy for them. What I did was put some millet seeds in a half cut tomato , they started eating the seeds as soon as I put my hands inside, as the seeds got over they started to chew the tomato pulp and I guess they felt it tasty so they started nibbling the tomato pulp. I also kept a small cardboard box inside my cage yesterday but they never tried to enter or discover it...

I had kept a card board box inside my cage jus in case they need some insulation from cold. But they are too scared of it I guess since the box I kept is not a plain one has lot of vibrant color on it. I guess I need to remove it!! :o

You're making some great progress with your birds
I would advise you though to take out the cardboard box. If you have any females, that can instantly trigger nesting and they may end up laying eggs in there.
If you think your budgies are getting cold, just cover their cage from two sides :)

Hey thanks for the reply Zeena, but I am worried if I put my hands again in the cage to remove the box, again they might get scared, now they are getting adjusted to the cage setting  they keep sitting on a single perch whole day, but today I saw some movements. Although they don't use half of the lower cage..

It is better to remove it now though. If you have females and they get used to the cardboard box being there, they will assume it is a safe untouched place to nest and they may lay eggs :)
Remove it quickly. Think of it like changing their food or water, it is super quick ;)

Hey actually I kept that box for the sake of nesting itself...

Since your budgies are new, it is better to let them settle down for at least 6 months before attempting to breed :)
Please do your research before breeding. It is very serious and risky business. It is a lot more than just putting a male and female together with a box and hoping for the best. Things can go wrong like egg binding, parents not feeding babies and many more. Things can get even more ugly if you have more than one more in a cage with ONE box.
Again please please please do your research. A carboard box is not fit as a nesting site as it will accumulate bacteria and budgies can chew right through it.

My birds still in the same stage. They eat from my hands after thinking for a while. May be the problem is, I have kept the birds in the hall area of my house where we keep moving here and there and that scares them, but I have no other option either!! The cardboard box which I had kept has become a resting place for my cock, though it won't go inside it but it sits on top of it! Also have seen some bonding between themselves, my female preens the male even though the male won't do it in return!! He's a bit shy I feel :p

Now my birds like tomato very much, I feed them myself. They like to eat the tomato flesh and the seeds. Also they are bonding between themselves. Even though my male is a but shy kind of, he still allows the female to come close to eat and preen it.

Yesterday for the first time I took my birds out of the cage. I opened the roof of the cage and let them come out. At once they started flying crazy, my female has no flight feather I guess so it couldn fly much and it settled down on the floor, but my male has good flying abilities, it went and sat on the ceiling fan. Oh! God I had a tough time catching it. Finally I switched of the light in the room and caught it. Initially it screamed and was so scared, now its feeling better I guess. Today morning I fed them using my hand and they ate so I guess they still trust my hands.. Iwas scared after yesterday's incident. My hen is more socializer than my male I guess!!
Now I am scared to let them out of the cage again. What you guys suggest???
