Okay, so I'm going to order a cage for a tiel "just in case" we get the go ahead. (Which I'm sure we will). I found two at GREAT prices. One is 20 X 20 X 28.5 BUT has a top that opens into a playstand.

The other one is 20 X 20 X 35.5 but doesn't open up & is a dome style top, so it probably wouldn't be a very comfy place to hang out on top of.

What would you do?

I'd probably also pick the first one. I like how it opens at the top.....BUT....
If you did go with the second one, (which I do like the style of quite a bit; it's a bit sleeker in my opinion), then you may want to use a rope perch or two on the outside on the top of the cage for your bird to hang out on, instead of on the cage bars.

I'd choose cage 1, for functionality and looks.
The second cage 'looks' larger, and the dimensions decry this as well, but the domed shape doesn't really add much living space. It would be easy enough to make the second cage's top into an appropriate play area, but since this is already present on cage one, why bother?
Just my two pennies.

Yeah, I think you've got a good point. Thanks.
Thanks pipp4 & budgiekin for your input as well. I believe I am going for the 1st one after all. BTW, if anyone is curious or needs one, I'm getting it for $61 shipped!

I'd go with cage 2, its bigger. You can add perches and ropes to the top of it to make it into a gym. Coco's cage is like the 2nd one, but his play gym is me of the coffee table! with his toys!

That's a very good price, is the stand included?

Yup! It's a great price. The same price for either cage. Here's a link to their site, I'm actually getting one from them on ebay. Free shipping to the US and no sales tax! (Unless you live in California-like me)

I would go with the first, I much prefer the flat tops, for so many reasons, but mostly it is because you can easily put things on top.

I guess i look at it the opposite way, i'd rather give them more room for when they are in their cages when im gone
either way, they are both nice cages!

Thanks for the link. I'll keep them in mind when I'm in the market for a new cage.

I don't like the "opening up" part, it seems a bit dangerous for a young tiel. Zeus is only 7 months old and has fallen off of everything you can imagine, so I'm worried what a huge fall would be like if the bird was running around on top.

Oh wow, that never even crossed my mind. I haven't gotten anything yet, so I'm still debating. I guess there are pros & cons to each, so maybe I'll just flip a coin! LOL :D

i would go with the second just because its bigger, and you can easily add things to the outside. make the bar spacing is right though. 1/2" they look bigger to me.
Liz has a good point which i never tahught of before, i like the cages that open up like that but liz did bring up a good point, i think id still go with the second cage because its bigger and you can also buy a seperate playgym or make one your self or even just add a few perches and stuff on the outside.

It's 5/8", but I thought that was the norm for a tiel? :S
I prefur the 1st one personally, I like the open top ones!

Tiels like to stay with people more anyway, mine have a huge cage full of toys and they only play at night before they go to bed, they're with us all day long. Or they're running around the top like 2 bad tiels and shrieking!

That is one of the reasons I like the open top one...I can keep it closed & it's flat. I keep picturing it sliding down the sides of the arched one! LOL

Keep looking around for a cage, try getting one with a flat top that does not open. Tiels are notorious dorks! They will fall.

I didn't know that. My husband will be happy to know that another dork will be moving in! LOL.
What do you think about the bar spacing...1/2" or 5/8"?

5/8" is the maximum you can go with a tiel, I don't recommend going any higher than that.
