I looked around and besides the fact it seem to be something people bake with It looks like its in alot of very high-quality bird feed.

"The anise seed gives the veggies an usual flavor, definitely something a little different (yes, I tasted it)"
I got that off a site selling food for birds that included anise seed. There is also Anise tea so its not toxic, just something that gives flavor :P

If you have ever given your baby gripe water I believe there is anise in that. Sometimes when I have a gassy/upset stomache I steep a small amount of anise, fennel and some similar seeds then drink it. It tastes sort of like the gripe water but has no alcohol.
