Don't knock it until you try it! Twitter is used by some of the largest companies in the world as part of their social networking to get and keep clients interested in their products and/or areas of expertise. Besides, Talk Budgies tweets are never boring! :P

Well we already have a decent following at Facebook. The main point of giving out the Karma is to gain the followers. So I don't think giving out Karma for Facebook is necessary at this point. Never say never though.

A short Twitter 101, for those who are interested:

Twitter is basically a worldwide ongoing conversation. People talk about everything from what they had for breakfast to where to find the best new computer to whether the Pope should be impeached. You get to decide what it is for you.

1. Tweets are allowed to be 140 characters or less. If you want to post a link, though, Twitter can provide you with a shortened link that goes to the same site.

2. You can customize your personal Twitter page using a background photo, but many people do not actually use the web site to post or read tweets. There are a few different applications out there that you can use-- I use one called Tweetdeck (http://www.tweetdeck.com/), which causes people's tweets to pop up in the corner of my computer screen for a few seconds and I can mouse over them if I'm interested or ignore them if I'm not. If you have an iPhone or iPad, these apps can also be used on those. You can tweet photos or video using yfrog (http://yfrog.com/) or another such application.

3. If you want to get regular updates of someone's tweets, you can follow them by clicking the "follow" button on their Twitter page. Other people will be able to follow you-- if you don't like the idea of strangers reading your tweets, set your page to private.

4. If you like what someone tweeted and want to share it with your followers who might not also be following that person, you can "retweet" it-- this basically copies their tweet and makes it from you, while mentioning their Twitter name to give them credit.

5. You can name your Twitter account pretty much anything you want, but it will be easier for people to find you if you use your real name. It's probably also much less likely to be taken.

6. Do some searching around for people to follow-- you might be surprised to see who's using Twitter. Many major and minor news sources have Twitter accounts, so following them can be a good way to get the news immediately. I was a fan of Reading Rainbow back in the day, so I like to read Levar Burton (http://twitter.com/levarburton)'s updates of what he's doing. Fans of Star Treck: TNG will be happy to know that Wil Wheaton (http://twitter.com/wilw) and Brent Spiner (http://twitter.com/brentspiner) are also regular tweeters-- often to each other. A lot of podcasts and radio and TV shows also have Twitter pages so they can update fans on what's coming up next. Lee Unkrich (http://twitter.com/leeunkrich), one of the directors at Pixar, issues regular tweets about what's happening with the upcoming Toy Story 3. Those are just a few examples of what you can find-- it would be impossible to mention them all.

7. Remember that once you've tweeted something, you can delete it but people will have seen it nonetheless. Don't tweet something you don't want the whole world to know. A lot of public figures have found themselves in hot water after they tweeted something in a fit of anger and it came back to bite them in the behind.

8. You can send direct messages (private tweets) to people who are following you, but not people who aren't. If you want someone who isn't following you to see your tweet about them, you should include their account name in your tweet with an "@" in front of it. For example, @leeunkrich

9. Trending topics: If people want to see other people who they may not be following if they're discussing a certain topic, they put a hash tag in front of the topic when they mention it. This enables you to more easily search for people discussing that topic. Example: "I just saw #Avatar, and I really liked it!"

10. People will follow you according to how interesting or relevant they find your tweets. Don't get offended if someone stops following you-- it may be that they just can't handle how frequently you tweet, or they found that what you generally talk about just isn't that interesting to them. I tweet about my daily life, but some people tweet exclusively about their travels, or their pets, or political issues, etc. Not everything is everyone's cup of tea.
