View Full Version : Play Outside
I took Gus for his first ever venture outside the house into the back yard out of his cage today. He looked absolutely stunned at first with no idea what to do, then he forraged around on the ground for a while then came running back to me. I think he was a little nervous and scarred. Then we sat out there for a while while he sat on my sholder and played with my necklace (Typical he does that inside). Funny though, he never showed any interest in flying away (His wing is clipped but he didn't even try). but i'm sure he was just stunned at how much world there is.
Does anyone else take their bird outside? Is this ok/normal? I just thought he may like it. he seemed to. you know what else is funny about this, he seemed more attatched to me outside than inside. when he was perched on my finger all he wanted was head scratches. I scratched his head for about 10minutes, and he still wanted more.
Please don't do this. :( The risks are HUGE!! If he decided to to flutter off and a breeze picked up then he could easily be out of the yard in no time even with both wings clipped. There are also all sorts of diseases he could get if he found some wild bird poop or if he had an encounter with a wild bird. If you want to take your bird outside please keep it in it's cage at ALL times or invest in a FlightSuit for it: Flight Suits (http://www.flightquarters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=F).

I wouldn't do that. There's to much of a risk that he would fly away and never be found again. If you must take him outside in his cage or like someone said a harness.
He can't fly though, i mean at all. the pet store clipped his wing so heavily. What other "so many dangers" are there? He is supervised the whole time.
Even with a serious clip he could get away. My budgie Ozzie is clipped and sometimes it seems as though he can barely fly at all but then if he really wants to get somewhere he has this mysterious ability to fly. If you added a light breeze to that a clipped budgie can go a loooong way. It is seriously not worth the risk, i'd never do anything to put my babies in danger.
Still don't do it, and like Bea said, it's still dangerous!
