I have always wanted a bird. I never had one because my Mom isn't too fond of them. However, about three weeks ago, I had an epiphany- I am 20 and have an apartment. I can get a bird!!!

I researched and researched and came to the conclusion that a budgie was the best option. Cheap, friendly, quieter than large birds, and a great first bird all around. I spent the next three days staring at budgies at Petco, Petsmart, and a local pet store. The local pet store budgies were young- no irises in their eyes and barred heads all the way down. They were quiet and clean. And I fell in love with Yogi!

I took Yogi home with the expectation of not being able to handle her for weeks. I knew she would be timid because she was not tame. However... when I opened the box, she literally jumped onto my hand and just sat there. I was thrilled. Over the first few days I handled her and got her used to being on my shoulder. She was fearless. A perfect homework companion.

Now she REALLY loves my shoulder... She spends at least 4 hours on my shoulder most days (but usually more) while I do everything- brush my teeth, make/eat dinner, do hours and hours of homework, hang out with friends... even when I go to the bathroom. Haha... yeah. Each morning I take her and put her on my dresser while I shower/get ready, and each afternoon/evening she is on my shoulder. What a doll.

She FINALLY is eating tiny tiny tiny cut up apples but still isn't fond of other veggies/fruit. She only gets anxious and tries to hop off my shoulder when she is hungry.

Whenever I have her on my finger, she will be content for a few minutes but then flutter to my shoulder. She is so sweet though.. I don't mind her on my shoulder.

Anybody have any thoughts on her training? What do I do next? Did I do anything wrong?
