Can someone help me sort this out. Some books say to give gravel to budgies and some say not to!! Also My Bby Lulu is turning out to be a Boy!! What to name him? I want to keep Baby as his first name as he knows that name now.
Thanks

Well, in my opinion, it is completely unneccessary. Check out the Articles forum for the article called "The Truth About Grit". After you read it, you will see a couple of other comments after the article that represent the other side of the argument from what is stated in the article.
I don't think grit is necessary either. And as to naming, you could change Lulu to Luke. :p

I think that gravel or grit create a breeding ground for bacteria, so it is probably best to avoid it. I know that budgies like to forage in the grit, but you can still provide other things to entertain them, so they don't miss foraging on the ground. I mix my seed with the pellets, only a teaspoon full so that Bobby can pick through the pellets to get to his favourites, and then he also gets a taste of the pellets as well (he still doesn't eat his pellets though! :D )
How about Louis (pronounced Lewi) instead of Lulu???

because budgies are hook bill birds they do not need grit. the grit is only needed by soft bill birds. I have been told by an avian vet that grit can actually get stuck in the digestive system or crop and cause internal bleeding and death.
It is totally unnecessary. Like everyone else has said!
