Karma is a way to show other members that they are appreciated. If someone makes a good post, gives you a good tip, etc., you can give them Karma points. This guide will explain how to do this.

There are three parts to this guide: giving Karma, receiving Karma, and other rules.

Giving Karma

To give Karma to a post (positive only), find the http://talkbudgies.com/images/steelblue/buttons/reputation.gif button located in the top right of the post. When you click it, a box will drop down that looks like this:

If you want to give positive Karma, click the I approve button. [The disapproval option (negative Karma) is no longer available due to abuse of the system.] Also, you may leave comments (optional). Once you give Karma to a post, you cannot take it back.

Receiving Karma

To see if a post of yours received Karma, click the http://talkbudgies.com/images/steelblue/buttons/reputation.gif button on the top right of the post. A dialog box will pop up and will let you know how much Karma has been left for that post and your total Karma points.

A post that hasn't received any Karma will show this dialog:

A post that has received Karma will show this dialog box. The box will tell you how much (positively or negatively) Karma you've received for this post, as well as any comments left:

You can also check the last 15 Karmas received by going to your User CP and scrolling down. There should be a list of the last 15 Karmas received. Obviously, if you haven't received any Karma yet this list will not exist.

Other Rules

Everyone starts out with 10 Karma points for registering.
You must give Karma to 10 different people before giving to the same person again.
You can only give out Karma 10 times per day.
You can only give Karma to a post once.
Your Karma will not affect other users' total until you reach 50 posts. So if you give out Karma for a good post and you only have 35 posts, the user's Karma level who you gave the Karma to will not change.
Rep power: the number of Karma points you give out each time you give Karma to a post. So if you have 10 rep power, you give out 10 Karma points each time you give out Karma. If someone has a rep power of 25 and they give you positive Karma, you will receive 25 Karma points. If they give you negative Karma, you will lose 25 Karma points.
Karma points: the total amount of Karma points you have
The green (or red) bars: this is just a scale of how many Karma points you have. This is not related to rep power.
The green, red, or black blocks: indicates what type of Karma your post received.
You receive one rep power point for every year you're registered to the site, for every 1000 posts you make, & for every 100 Karma points you get.
This can be a very rewarding and powerful system if used correctly. Abuse will render this system useless and will just cause problems. We ask that you please only give out Karma when appropriate.

Negative karma has been disabled. No one can receive or give negative karma anymore.
