My name is jan and my budgies name is poppy she is 7 years old and i have been really worried about her lately. She has these funny turns last night she was on the bottom of her cage and all of a sudden she started screaming when i went over she jumped up on her perch with her wings out still screaming i had to take her out to calm her down then my son woke me at 2 am this morning saying it was happening again i eventually got her calm and went back to bed but does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with her.

Welcome to the forum justjan! I am sure you'll enjoy it here.

It sounds like your sweetie had a night fright or two. A night fright is when a budgie all of a sudden starts "freaking out" at night in their cage; usually they flap like crazy, and sometimes can squawk like crazy too. There isn't always a trigger for a night fright, but some common ones are lights from a car, a sudden noise. . . . )

There are some things you can do to help prevent night frights. My budgies have them on occasion so what I do is provide them a night light. Their cages aren't completely covered so that they can see the night light. Another thing I do is I use a baby monitor (since my budgies don't sleep in the same room as me) so that I can hear them if they all of a sudden decide to go into a night fright episode. That way I can get to them quickly, turn a light on and calm them down.

If anyone has any other ideas about what could be happening to this little sweetie, please feel free to share them. :p
